It’s new bike day for me! And an opportunity to discuss if this is the best value gravel bike no one seems to be talking about - the Genesis CDA10.

#gravelbike #bike #cyclist #cycling

At under £800 I believe this is an awful lot of bike for your money, and thanks to the guys at Pickerings Bikes, I’ve gone and bought one for myself.

The plan is to ride and upgrade this one over a series of videos, showing that this is not only a great entry level gravel bike, but also one that is worth of upgrade and improvement!

Had mine nigh on four years now, bought brand new in 2020. Colour was way brighter in real life than online, but you don't notice that when you're riding. Fee upgrades over time and it's been absolutely fantastic. You're right about it not being talked about much, if at all. It's a secret I've been happy to keep to myself.

I love the orange colour, it really stands out! The price point seems amazing too! Gravel bikes are king these days!

That is a nice looking bike! I have a Carrera Virtuoso with 32mm rubber, a 34t on the back and a 46-30 crankset. It's still not low enough on the gearing for my taste. I have the tektro cable disks and they are also quite weak. It's great fun in less hilly areas though. Definitely following to see how you get on with the hydros and a 28t front ring.

I spent the extra to get the CDA30 because it came with a GRX 46/30 crankset.
Brakes were awful, but I got some TRP Spyre callipers which bring them up to "acceptable, but not brilliant."
Mine came with a knackered freehub. Genesis sent me a new one which has lasted only 1, 000 miles, mostly on road.
I still like the bike though. It got me and my luggage from Nice to Annecy over some of the highest passes in the alps, and I'm getting the rear wheel rebuilt with a better quality hub.

Thanks for this content. I really liked your idea of the cassette upgrade too which could be a first adjustment. Now you have had more time with it does the fork really let it down or do you not mind it with a carbon fork?

Out of interest, does the Lost Lad by Go Outdoors seem like a similar bike that I could do a similar thing to? It's only £399 currently and seems to be all Alloy and also the same groupset? Or do you think the frame quality will be so poor?

If you want hydraulic brakes and to upgrade the crankset then really its a whole groupset change needed because i have no idea where you would get 8 speed hydraulic shifters for that bike so then your costs will soar and you will still have a bike with some budget parts. Is it not better to spend a little more on a factory bike?

Replace the Claris with a true Gravel groupset Microshift SWORD 2x10.

I would say, not good enough. At around £1400 you can get hydraulic discs, grx gears reasonable wheels and tyres, basically any upgrade would only be marginal gain. You have a proper gravel/ camping bike. An old adapted bike would be as good or better than this for gravel.

So hard to find a good looking basic bike like this and in orange what more could anybody want.
Don't know if you have it there but very similar to the Jamis Renegade A1.
Sizing looks big on the geo chart. Is that a medium or large ?
