I grew up in Astoria, Queens and so proud of that! I am also a 9/11 survivor. On September 12, 2001, my sister insisted that I get out of the house for a bit. We went to Neptune Diner at around 10:00am. It was packed with people. I knew one of the waitresses at the time very well. I told her that 24 hours prior, I had made it out of the Twin Towers by only several minutes. She must have spread the word around because, shortly after, the entire place gave me a standing ovation. I was overwhelmed and so grateful, yet felt so undeserving. There was such a sense of community in ND that morning. This is a memory which I will forever keep with me!

I remember in the 90s when I finished the night shift I used to stop there on my way home.

exactly my point of you owning nothing in the u.s... you can own the building but not the land its on.... wtf... its wrong to put cheaply made unaffordable apartments that are tiny with no real space just for a few dollars look at 5 points 30$ of those apartments are full the rest empty

Not for nothing yo but my cousin Vito and I would go there with his cousins Little Tony and Sal. We would play stick ball and then sing a cappella near the dumpster. Everyone would come by, Mickey Divisadero, Frankie Arguello and Pete Palermo too.

But why are they closing if the place is packed and have daily loyal customers eating there all the time? Is the cost of rent ?
