Tesla Cybertruck - Foundation Series Coming To An End; What To Do?!?!

The Tesla Cybertruck has been available to customers since the beginning of 2024. On release, we learned that the Cybertruck would be offered as a Foundation Series initially, which would come with an additional $20k package of features.

For $20k, you are able to configure your Cybertruck order to be a Foundation Series truck. This gives you the option to choose between the Dual Motor and the Cyberbeast. You get a number of add ons for the markup including things like FSD, lifetime premium connectivity, PowerShare equipment, premium accessories and much more.

That all said, the Foundation Series $20k means that the Dual Motor Cybertruck does not qualifies for the EV tax credit of $7,500. After Foundation Series is over, pricing will be $79,990 for the Dual Motor and $99,990 for the Cyberbeast. This means that the Dual Motor will qualify for the EV tax credit when properly configured.

Properly configured in this case means the base truck that comes standard in Dual Motor configuration. We dont yet know what all that is going to look like, but it most likely will have differences from Foundation Series to include standard wheels, basic autopilot, carpet floor mats, smaller wheels with all season tires, no PowerShare or home backup, and other differences to be seen soon.

Elon Musk did confirm during Shareholder Day in June that the non-Foundation Series Cybertruck would be made available for order by the end of next quarter. It is Q3 that he is referring to, and although the orders may become available by September, that does not mean deliveries will begin in 2024.

That said, it is likely a decent number of regular Dual Motor Cybertrucks could make it into customer hands by the end of 2024. The Cyberbeast seems to still be well out on orders, and still comes off the production line in limited numbers.

So with this imminent change coming, should you wait for the Non-Foundation Series Cybertruck? Well, if you are far back in the original order line, this may be your last chance to get your hands on a Cybertruck before the wait is beyond a year long.

I was 1.8 million deep in the list. There will only be about 50k Cybertrucks produced this rear. That order list is going to take many years to work through. I figured it would be 2028 before I would get one assuming that they could ramp up to 300, 000 trucks per year. So the Foundation Series saved me about 4 more years of waiting.

Most of the reservations were for the $50K dual motor and I don't believe there will be that many more takers for the $80K version. The Tax credit will likely be going away as well. I expect the dual motor to drop again by 2026

I ordered 7/7/20, got my foundation email 6/4/24. So about half a year wait. Going to wait for Non-Foundation, hopefully the wait isn't too long. I turn 40 in November 2025; would be a nice turning 40 gift to myself.

15 min after reservation were available I reserved one then took my 15 min break at work, went outside to see the Cybertruck drive around as I work at SpaceX. Received my FS configure email back in December and thought hard about it for a week and decided to wait. Hope I receive a Non FS configure email sometime later this year now.

Even $80K for a CT is not affordable for the average person who assumed $45K was going to be the starting price. How do you finance a $80K - $100K vehicle? What are monthly payments like anyway? More than your mortgage?

I was just talking to a guy yesterday that said he passed on the Foundation Series and waiting for the standard truck. He said he put the reservation in 2021. So he had a late reservation number., I told him that the list was going to reset back to early reservations. It could be a few years for that guy to get his truck. I also think the 79k starting point will be a bare bones CT. Which will help the Foundation Series hold their value a little better.

There have been a number of recalls as well since it's new vehicle and I'd anticipate more, so in addition to saving the 20k you can also save yourself the time spent in service appointments, bugs and quirks.

I got the ugly covers that everyone says that are ugly but honestly they look much better in person. I want the most range I can get tbh.. both are cool covers, but not sure why people say the all season covers are ugly, they nearly look the same just doesn’t have the star shape coming out.

Waiting - Guessing that pricing for non-foundation series will be the same once FSD, accessories, and wheels are added. For context Check a Plaid S/X, fully spec it (wheels, interior, FSD, light bar, and other odds and ends). Should be about the same price. I am waiting till next round as I do not need a car till next year. Then will see what happens. I have a model Y now and it’s running great. So I’ll roll the dice and see how it goes. Only time will tell. Good coverage!
