An ambulance crew that took 35 minutes to get into the apartment of a dying B.C. woman has prompted a provincial government review. Paramedics took more time because of extra security features in the building, including a locked elevator. Firefighters had to be dispatched to the scene to help paramedics inside.

"Ambulance crew took 35 minutes to get to dying B.C. woman"
The Ambulance crew didn't TAKE 35 minutes. The Ambulance crew were forced to wait on a fire department crew to unlock the door. There is a difference. Poor journalism. Because you obviously need help, here is your correct title:
"Poor B.C. emergency system protocols, prevented ambulance crew from aiding dying woman." yes, I can assure you, you would have gotten the same view count, actually probably FAR MORE views due to properly titling your video. So there are actually two tragedies here. First, a poor emergency system prevented paramedics to reach a person in need and poor journalism with a thread title making the first responders who simply tried to save her life, look bad.

The issue isn’t dispatching fire, it’s giving lock box access to the medics. There was no need for fire and thus no need to dispatch them. Give Paramedics the same access as fire.

Give ambulance workers fire keys. Simple freaking solution.

If fire are the only ones able to get in to the building in emergency then No matter what They should be sent out first

It's a tragic incident but I fail to see how the suggested correction is to dispatch fire to more calls. Such a change would cost thousands and increase public risk to deliver a master key? Instead of dispatching fire to gain access why don't we just staff ambulances with these keys? I cannot see what further benefit the fire department would provide to a call such as this

"an independent review of the case" is code for Departments investigating themselves.

They make it seem like it was ambulances and firefighters fault but in reality why does this building have so many locks and how does she not know any of it. The ambulance was there in five minutes but she can’t go down or something.

I fervently pray for hearts and memories to heal and for future efficient *especially life-saving* emergency response, in particular, *instant* access available to *all* emergency personnel.

The title makes it seem as if it were the Ambulance Service's fault. WTH?? Not their fault at all. The only reason they were delayed was because of the patient's living arrangements. She chose to live in a place with assinine security procedures. No one forced her to live there. The building should have a system that allows any emergency service to gain entry. Not simply fire. In fact the only reason that fire has a key is because of City bylaw. Perhaps the city should supply lockbox keys to the Ambulance Service????

I wonder if her family is going to get the paramedic/ambulance bill like they send in Ontario.

Absolutely terrible to hear about! I thought they took long to arrive. No, they arrived in 5 minutes, they just couldn't get all of the doors unlocked to reach the poor dying woman. SMFH 😠
What happened to her in the accident anyway, and why was her "groin bleeding??"

The lack of proper public transportation services also doesn't help. Too much traffic, too many cars.

Canada you need to fix your response. The Alberta fires where set by a FIRE FIGHTER! Tragic. Very sorry RIP

Sad. Hopefully they change the system... They need to call salino and Barnes injury attorneys 800-888-8888 and sue the s#!t out of that building.

Terrible. This happened to me as well I could have walked to the hospital by the time it took them to come. It was critical. I will take a dam uber next time! Ridiculous!! My complete condolences. I live in a fully accessible house that is 5 minutes away from the hospital by car. No excuses for this circumstance! The firefighters should have come right away.
