India's first Garibrath Express negotiates the Grand Garhmuktesar Curve& enters Century old bridge
Показать описание
India's very first Garibrath Express, the brainchild of Lalu Prasad Yadav, connecting Amritsar Jn., in Amritsar, Punjab and Saharsa Jn. in Bihar. It was the first Garibrath introduced in Indian Railways by the then Railway Minister Shri. Lalu Prasad Yadav. The main idea of introducing the Garibrath was to provide AC travel to people at cheaper costs as compared to Conventional trains and premier class trains like Rajdhani Express. In this video, the 12204 Amritsar-Saharsa Garibrath can be seen slowing down to negotiate the grand curve at Garmukhtesar and prepare to negotiate the century old Railroad bridge with a PSR of 20kmph. At Present the bridge has been closed down and given a rest after serving for more than a century. A new railroad bridge has been thrown open for commercial operations adjacent to the old bridge, and the new bridge has a higher PSR, which allow trains to rush past this station, instead of slowing down and picking up speed again. Ludhiana (LDH) shed's rebuilt WDM3A 16665R was doing the honors of hauling the GR that day.

Garib Rath Express
----------------------------
The Garib Rath (literally: "Poor Man's Chariot") is a no-frills air-conditioned train started by the Indian Railways in 2005 to provide cheaper air-conditioned travel to passengers who could not afford normal fares of air conditioned class in normal trains. As the fares are less than two-thirds of the fares for air conditioned classes in other trains, the distance between each seat or berth is less, the seats and berths are narrower and each coach has more seats and berths than in air-conditioned coaches in other trains. Only seating and three-tier (78 seats) accommodation is provided in Garib Rath. The passengers are not provided free bedding or food. It is faster than super-fast express trains. The maximum speed of Garib Rath trains is around 130 kmph, nearly same as Rajdhani's top speed, although majority of the Rajdhanis have been upgraded to LHB rakes now with max speed of 160kmph.
The 12203 / 04 Saharsa Amritsar Garib Rath Express is a Superfast express train of the Garib Rath category belonging to Indian Railways - Northern Railway zone that runs between Saharsa Junction and Amritsar Junction in India.
It operates as train number 12203 from Saharsa Junction to Amritsar Junction and as train number 12204 in the reverse direction serving the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana & Punjab.
