✅ About The Leca Queen :

Nora here! Welcome to The Leca Queen channel.

I love all things indoor PLANTS. I enjoy growing my plants in SOILESS media; yep, no soil! I primarily use LECA (clay balls) to grow my plants using hydroponics (semi-hydroponics).

I show you how my beautiful plants grow in LECA and help you achieve the RESULTS that I have. I cover a TON of leca growing tips, a very comprehensive leca 101 where I hold your hand and help you navigate the world of semi-hydroponics.

I love to experiment and discover different ways of taking care of plants. There is no right or wrong way, just the way that works for you and your plants. Join me on my many plant adventures.

Hi Nora, just a thought mate, instead of a plastic back, what about a piece of clear/frosted corrugated poly carbonate roofing. It will stand up by itself a lot better too I think. Just a thought, I have a snow queen and it's just wonderful but I never thought of doing that, WOW. Thanks for the vid. Seeya Rob

I just found your videos while trying to find a way to build a moss wall for my pothos and I have screamed at the last two videos because of the growth of the Snow Queen and Syngonium. This is amazing!

For moss wall 3.0, I suggest you put the trough on a base with 'wheels' - before I put my Ikea cabinet together I imagined having to clean around and behind it as a difficult to move item, so I built a wooden base with a lip around it, so when I pushed it the feet wouldn't slip off, and painted it a similar black. It's a handy extra place for my warming mat too. So, you could wheel your moss wall outside to flush it as well. - Oh and I'd build a tall 30"-ish handle for pushing on the backside too, you could zip tie the garden stakes to it for extra stability!

You could also make the wire mesh all the way around and then line the inside of the back of the mesh with the thinner plastic. Like make a 12" round mesh pole or any size you want than flatten it out like a wall then line the inside of the back with the thinner plastic.

Highly recommend Soltech track lighting grow lights. They look beautiful and can be hard wired or corded.

I would love to be the recipient of your beautiful snow Queen moss wall! 😊
For the backing how about clear roofing sheets? I wonder??
Love the syngonium wall.. 💚💚🪴 Natalie

Fantastic video quality and great content.

What about something like this.

2ft wide x 4ft long acrylic box that’s say 4” deep. Imagine an oversized gift box for a shirt or a cake box. A cake box is good because you can see inside. But instead of the clear plastic to see what’s inside, there’s just an opening.

This opening is around 3” away from the edge. This allows for a lip.

Imagine a cake box made out of clear acrylic instead of cardboard but where the clear part would be on a cake box, there’s nothing. That’s the opening for your plant to grow out of.

Continuing with the cake box analogy, envision looking into the opening. Put moss where you’re cake would be.

Cover it so it’s 3”+ thick.

Take material with a grid (chicken wire for example), and place it over the moss. Cut it to fit the space really tightly.

You’ll probably still need to secure the grid somehow. Perhaps wedge strips of the same acrylic or some grapewood or something.

Now you’ll secure your cutting just above the bottom when you hang it. When you spray/water your moss, you’ll aim to stop watering before the water accumulates much on the bottom (where your lip is and you have LECA to absorb overflow).

Bonus points if the side that faces the ceiling has an opening too because you want add your water there.

It’s like a hanging prop box. You couldn’t do a few different sizes and hang them together.

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while… it’s based on the rock filled mesh retaining walls/fences you see around the place.. basically you build a solid metal/rigid plastic frame but use a finer mesh and Leca in place of rocks. ..Have a pump at the bottom of the pot that attaches to a pipe that lays the length of the cage on top.. I figure that if the leca is constantly moist it should work just as well as moss. You could put a solid back and sides on it.. you could have it completely independent from the pot and hang it on the wall… a slow drip to keep the leca moist or running a little faster like a water feature thingy… it’s all just in my head at the moment and could be a complete fail 🤷🏼‍♀️… I hope that all makes sense

Just discovering your channel. Your information about everything Leca is excellent, thorough and practical. I live in the U.S., and I wish I had the abundant sunshine there in Australia. Extremely useful was the information about tree fern fiber porosity vs. moss, as well as watering. I also appreciate you acknowledging the market differences between Australia and other nations. Love the creativity and beautiful plants!

If you're not afraid to wear a respirator I recommend PVC foam.
It's sturdy on it's own, you can cut it with a box cutter.
The really interesting part is the property to be able to bend it using heat, this is why you may need a respirator and gloves to protect you from the heat. It's gonna be a little more sturdy once heated too.
People use this material for costumes to create armor 😅
It's cheap and came in black and white for what I know.
