Sir Ed Davey has said the Liberal Democrats need to 'wake up and smell the coffee' as he became the party's fifth leader in five years.

Former leader Jo Swinson lost her East Dunbartonshire seat in 2019 after 12 years as an MP.

Sir Ed won 42,756 votes, beating his rival Layla Moran - who received 24,564 votes.

Layla Moran should never have been allowed to stand after her arrest for domestic abuse.

I used to vote Lib Dem but stopped when I realised they could not be trusted to buy two coffees let alone run a country, laughing stock for the last few years.

The Liberal Democrats is the only party that introduced policies that make any logical sense. One day the rest of the UK will recognise this

Does he understand how the 2 party system works ? I only voted lib dem bc I wanted labour to win. But only lib dems and conservative would only win in my area. So I had to vote lib dem.

I won't be holding my breath but the UK desperately needs a true, classical liberal party: freedom of the individual, supportive of business, while remaining helpful to the most in need. Not socialist, neither conservative.
