How to deal with food guilt and stop feeling guilty about food.
Food guilt is that terrible feeling that creeps in after you’ve had an extra slice of pizza or too many cookies. It’s the little voice in your head telling you that you should have chosen the salad instead of the burger or had water instead of soda. But this voice is actually detrimental and is doing you a great disservice. So how can you shut that voice down and overcome food guilt?

What is food guilt?
In general, feelings of guilt arise after doing something perceived as wrong, or not doing something perceived as right. In a lot of cases, guilt can be a positive emotion because it provides motivation to act better in the future.
However, guilt can also have a negative impact when it is unfounded and leads to actionless remorse. This is what happens with food guilt. Diet culture has drilled into our minds that certain foods are bad and shouldn’t be eaten. Sure, it’s important to know about nutrition and health and which foods bring you the most benefits. But it shouldn’t be taken to such an extreme that you are overwhelmed with remorse after each “wrong” food choice. This can have a very negative impact in the long run.

I feel guilty when eating, just straight up eating . It doesn’t Matter what I eat or how much I always feel guilty afterwards what do I do? :(

I had 4 pieces of pizza today after eating a lot of chocolate this week because of easter and I am feeling soooo much guilt :/ my relationship with food has gone super down hill in the past year. thankful for this video and id really like more ways to deal with food guilt

thank you for your helpful tips about how to stop food guilt. When I was deep in my food addiction and eating disorder I just felt guilty about eating in general. And I felt ESPECIALLY guilty when I gave in to my binges. So grateful to be free from all of that now.

Thank you for making this video! I recently have been on a diet restricting weight loss journey for about a month and a half now and every time I ate something that I enjoyed that werent considered under the category of health foods like pizza, cookies, cake and stuff like that I would feel so guilty and ashamed afterwards, especially in social settings because it caused me to gain three pounds more because of food deprivation and binging so these tips were very helpful to hear. I will definetly try to dump the dieting mentality and focus more on mindful eating.

So glad I found your channel! I used to make mental notes to myself if I ate a bit too much and didn’t feel great so I could prevent it next time and had to remind myself that we are a lifelong work in progress. I have struggled with restrictive behaviours when I was younger and it’s taken me over a decade to fix my food issues.

thank you very much for this. the first scenario is literally the one I'm in right now! also I fine mindful eating really hard with work. we get a break when the manager tells us too, and obviously we have to eat it all within the half hour since that's all we'll have within 8 hours. and before that I eat a lot before work so I'm not hungry. but mostly it's the takeouts that affect me. I still live with my parents and the fact they get it so often is hard on me to say no. otherwise I cook my own dinner yk? I'm not fat, I know that. I lost a lot of weight and am happy with that but I did it in an unhealthy way. I got obsessed with my fitness pal (quit that a few months now) and lost weight very quickly. I'm still not happy with my body, and I still get food guilt. this video helped me realise I'm not the only one going through it. thank you.

During quarantine I started to struggle with food issues (i got to the point of crying in the bathroom after eating "unhealthy" meals) and thanks to your channel i found a way to stop them before they became a much more serius problem. I just ate wendys hambuger fries and nuggets. I feel horrible and ashamed. I know how much work its going to take to burn that off. Why am I so weak at times and other times strong?
