I’m not an eye doctor but I believe the reason this optical illusion is caused is because the orange ball doesn’t change in size but it looks like it does because it gets closer to where you’re looking and your peripheral vision partially focuses on it enlarging its size allowing it to look bigger but this only works because all the blue ball thingies are constantly being captured by your peripheral vision but are big enough to know they are there and are that size

Even when you showed the lines with the blue circles, it looked like the lines were getting closer and further apart. Crazy.

And yes, that's why the moon looks absolutely giant when it first rises, but not so much when it's high in the sky.

Explanation: well the orange circle is decreasing at a very slow rate and the blue circles are increasing and decreasing at a fast rate that's why it looks like the orange circle is moving

It's that the blue circles are moving closer to you, so it appears that it's smaller
