WHY WISTERIA?

The Fujiwara clan were an essential part of the government of Japan from 710 to 1160 and their family crest is emblazoned with the wisteria flower.
*In Japanese, wisteria in pronounced "FUJI"
The Fujiwara clan used to control much of Nara and built Kasuga Taisha Grand Shrine in 768.

Manyo Botanical Garden has more than 200 trees and 20 species of wisteria.

Thankyou very much for the tour! We enjoy staying at Nara, with the Nara Visitor Centre being one of our favourite accommodations. We have never visited the Kasuga Taisha Man'yo Garden before. Hopefully return in April and May next year when the Wisteria is in bloom.
