"Mother-heroine" is included in the list of the highest titles in Russia. In the same row - "Hero of Russia" and "Hero of Labor". The holders of these titles enjoy preferential medical care, free treatment in sanatoriums, preferential prosthetics and the provision of medicines.

After 1973, it became possible to reward women who adopted orphans during and after the war. In particular, the order was received by Bahri Akramova, who adopted 15 children - she did not have her own. Some women received the title posthumously, such as Alexandra Derevskaya.

In America you get shamed for having the audacity to have multiple kids without being rich.

This is fantastic. A lot of mothers and grandmothers deserve medals for real pillars of families.

My grandma had one of these medals. She had 9 children. Her name was Nuraniya. She has lived all her life in the countryside. She was ethnically Tatar. Very hardworking woman. She worked all her life on a collective farm. Remembering her, I think, how people in the past had so much strength and energy to work at such a hard job and still raise a lot of children? I have one child, and sometimes I get so tired. One child is not easy, but 9... 😮

Time for someone to recognize the mostly unpaid labour women and mothers contribute to society. We should totally bring back medals for workers, and mothers too. Since they often do the most thankless work.

Well-deserved
Taking part in raising 2 kids was difficult enough, I can't imagine 10
locals heroes whose names are lost to history

i am so conflicted about this. 10 children is a serious health hazard, meaning that a woman should be given care instead of being held up as an example for other women to follow. but also i love that reproductive labour is being acknowledged and valued. i hope all the receivers got to live a healthy life, where they were cared for and respected by their closest people.

are there any sources on how cultural attitudes or norms had changed after such a drastic reduction in population from WW2?, like it shouldn't be expected that people think of family or relationships as the same after 1/6th of the population is taken away, yet we never really hear of what their perspectives are, at least in the west
