To know when to use imparfait follow “ted was”

Here's what my teacher taught us.

1.) Make the verb its nous form
2.) Remove the -ons
Then plug in

je(') ais
tu ais
il/elle/on ait

nous ions
vous iez
ils/elles aient


Etre's nous form is sommes so it's an irregular verb. Its radical would be :ET

so Et ais
Etais
Etait

Etions
Etiez
Etaient

My wife and i recently moved to Switzerland, au Lausanne to be exact. I’m currently in an intensive cour de Francais and to say it’s kicking my butt would be an understatement. Imparfait et passé composé is a killer. Hearing it explained in French is tres difficile especially as i am still learning French words. Hearing it here with English subtext, although still hard, makes it somewhat easier to comprend. Merci beaucoup Alexa. I’ll be listening to this explanation again.
