I saw a documentary in which a former police detective handling this case. His prime suspect is a wealthy businessman and a member of the Jewish Council. Such people lived under the illusion that if they help the Nazis run the ghettos they will be spared. This particular man heard that the game is up and to save himself he provided a list of addresses where his informants told him Jews were hiding. He probably didn't know Franks by name, he just heard the rumors. He saved his hide while all his council members perished.

This is why Otto Frank must move his family to Switzerland or Ireland before WW2 happened so Anne and Margot Frank lives in their 90s having kids and grandkids.
