1:30 "Threatening to win this pawn, they have to play h3"

I play the Grob a lot as white, and this isn't ever how I'd play it. The natural move to defend the g-pawn for me is not h3, it's g5! If you don't want to play g5 as soon as possible if black allows it, then it seems to me there's no point in playing the Grob start with. You might as well play a different opening. The only time I ever play h3 to defend g4 is in response to some hyper-aggressive line where black brings their queen out to g5 on move 2.

Brilliant ideas. I normally play d5 then dxc4 lines which usually turn out well but I am tempted to try d5 then d4. 1, ...e5 looks very strong too.

I think the first system you showed is the smartest way to play against the grob.
Not giving the opponent any tricks and turning it into a normal game in which you have a positional advantage.

I started to look at grob to play some dimwitted overconfident opponents, then realized I needed to learn to defend against it too. Thank you

Hey Mio. I personalize really enjoy your streamed content with all the trash talking. Do you plan on doing any of this on the channel?

I've just come across the Grob for the first time online. Im trying the Pirc defence against it (I know that may seem strange) and the other player seems to be conforming to that. They're a higher level player than me though, so lets see how it goes.
