'Allegro Vivace' Symphony no. 5 van Charles Marie Widor,
uitgevoerd door Gert van Hoef in Stephanuskerk te Hasselt.

Een frans stuk op een puur Hollands orgel.
Om de registraties helemaal van te voren uit te zetten, was onbegonnen werk in de beperkte tijd die we hadden , dus zijn we gewoon gaan spelen.
Maar mede dankzij uitstekend werk van de registranten is het toch een redelijke uitvoering geworden, leuk genoeg om te delen.
Sommige gedeelten worden een octaaf lager gespeeld i.v.m.
de omvang van de klavieren.

The assistants pulling the stops and turning the pages are fine musicians in their own rights, and I'm not talking about tickling the ivories. Pulling or pushing the right knobs at the right times can make or break a performance, and thy performed flawlessly!

Tsjonge, wat was ik daar graag bij geweest! Eén van mijn favoriete stukken op één van de mooiste orgels van Nederland! Mooi gespeeld ook! De 'begeisterte' kritieken van onze Franse vrienden zeggen genoeg!

Bravo. One of Gert's that I had not listened to before despite being a subscriber for a few years. He certainly can make that organ sing. His towering talent and musicality makes transcription and interpretation of a symphonic piece written for a much bigger and very different organ absolutely enchanting. Hopefully he will give us some more recordings from Stephanuskerk te Hasselt.

Absolutely incredible, young sir!
Having limited manuels but expert registration handlers brings out Gert's personal expression all the more, than if he had played on a 5 manuel instrument!

Superb! This is all the better for being 'in the organ loft' with the player. One of the main reasons that the organ is not more popular is that the player, and all the effort he puts into the performance, is seldom seen. I like the way in which Gert looks around for that one last stop to drag out for the final chord! Many thanks for this and your other postings.

On reste admiratif devant un tel talent ! A 19 ans (cette vidéo date de 2013), Gert van Hoef a tout compris, et de l'orgue, et de Widor, et de cette 5e symphonie ! Tout y est dans ce mouvement, jusqu'aux fameux et facétieux glissandi (souvent escamotés par d'autres organistes...). La seule critique possible (mais n'est-ce pas plutôt un compliment ?) est que son interprétation (de l'allegro vivace initial comme de la toccata finale) serait encore plus époustouflante si on lui confiait un Cavaillé-Coll. Son sens inné de la musicalité rejoint, dans cette oeuvre, les interprétations de référence (sur le Net) qu'en donnent Pierre Pincemaille et Olivier Latry. Si l'on considère que la qualité d'une interprétation se mesure à l'aune de l'émotion ressentie, alors Gert, ici comme ailleurs, est en passe de devenir l'un des plus grands organistes qui soient...

"Tu arrives à toujours me surprendre...c'est inimaginable le talent que tu as!!! Que dire d'autre que "Mille Bravo" pour ta musicalité, ton aisance technique ainsi que ton exceptionnelle faculté d'adaptation pour jouer ce mouvement sur cet instrument! Tu en tires vraiment le meilleur parti, à mon sens et il serait bien improbable que d'arriver à surpasser ta magnifique performance!

This is by far my favourite organ piece and I love how you play it especially the registration at the end, I hope I will be able to play it someday too
