Yuri on Ice's got ripped off by Hallmark Channel's Love on Ice?!

Highly unlikely. Recently, anime fans across the internet banded together to accuse Hallmark Channel of copying Yuri on Ice. But a deeper look into the schedules of the production makes it pretty much impossible for that to have occurred. Even the author of Yuri on Ice came posted a tweet saying that she thinks Love on Ice is not a copy and will support its release. RELAX GUYS.

i love Yuri on ice. I'm in the fandom but we're wrong. Love On Ice was a book published in April of 2015, and this is just a movie of it. it's just a strange coincidence that they are so similar

Guys, remember the two golden rules of fandoms here.
1:Don't judge a fandom by it's fan.
2: Don't judge a fan by it's fandom.

Kubo sensei really deserves an award. That woman is seriously so kind and all her followers need to chill

It does seem suspicious at first look but whatever. They have different target audiences. if even the creator is fine with it then there's no reason to get too worked up. I'm a YOI fan anyone else is free to enjoy the other whatever it's supposed to be show.

I think it's just an incredibly crazy coincidence.

The only thing i disagree about is the gaining traction part. Yuri on Ice had a very well received first episode, I don't think anyone was waiting for that 3rd episode with bated breath just to decide whether it'll be good or not. I mean that openning pretty much sold everyone on it.

I love how miss kubo sensei responded to love on ice, truly a kind woman!

It's a coincidence. The movie is actually based on a book from 2009 so it isn't even related to Yuri On Ice in the first place. I feel like signal boosting this is going to be a real challenge.

Love on Ice is based on a book, which was a published a year before YOI premiered. Very similar stories, but LOI didn't plagiarize YOI.

The last time I saw a fandom this protective for a phenomenon like Yuri!!! was Undertale...

I love Yuri on Ice so much. It's one of my favorite anime ever. Sadly the fandom has crossed into batshit insane territory with this. There goes another thing I love that I'm embarrassed to admit I'm a fan of. Where I have to explain "The show is great but just ignore the fans". Obviously not every YoI fan is like this, and I've seen plenty who also think this whole thing is stupid. But it's just enough for the whole fanbase to get thrown under the bus. Nice.

I love yuri on ice so much and I am very upset. This fandom which in the beginning was a very positive and wonderful place to be is slowly plunging down into a not so nice place. I think we can still save it, but people need to stop doing things like this now.

the reaction of the yoi fandom was really awkward. Like a bunch of babys having a temper tantrum.

I can't blame the people for getting really angry, I was also angry too when I saw the title and read the summary because I actually did thought they were copying Yuri on Ice and was making fun of Yuri and Victor because they were both males and made this movie to piss the fans off now I know that was stupid to think that but I wanted to know for sure if they were copying it and I found out it was a book way before Yuri on Ice came out I realized they didn't copy Yuri on Ice. I am a big Yuri on Ice fan and I care deeply for the anime so that's why I got mad thinking it was a rip-off at first so I'm pretty sure everyone was the same way. I think the hate for Love on Ice has stopped now.

Please stop blaming the YOI Fandom as a whole. Look, we wanted to protect something that we love- Yuri On Ice- because it seemed far too close of a storyline coincidence, and with Hallmark's past of plagiarising ideas; we took it to far. On behalf of the YOI Fandom- I apologize for it. Honestly, I think most people would do something like this as well: have something you love and protect it. When we found out about Kubo's support to the movie, saying how hard it is to try and create an ice skating movie/story, the majority (I am able to speak for myself and those I know, I though sadly cannot speak for all) of the fandom is supporting Love On Ice knowing that it was not a plagiarised rip-off movie. And- to those who now claim that Yuri! On Ice is plagiarising the book Love On Ice is from, please remember- as we should- that YOI is from Japan, and LOI is from America. Literally different cultures, media, and the other sides of the world.

Oh, COME ON! 😡
Remember when people thought that Disney's The Lion King ripped off Kimba the white lion? 🙄
Disney said (and still stand by their saying) that they didn't know that Kimba the White Lion existed and yet people were telling the creators of the movie to file a copyright lawsuit. 😞
But alas, the creators have been long dead, and if they sued an Animation Juggernaut, that they would have no idea what they gotten themselves into, and would go broke. 😖
Hallmark Channel would do the same thing like in the past, and yet history is repeating itself. 😥
Ugh, the Yuri on Ice fanbase needs to take a chill pill! 🙄 (Pun Intended 😅)

Yuri on ice: "hey can I copy your homework?"
Love on ice:"sure but make it different."
