Its impossible to play something at speed if you cant play it slowly first!

I've just learnt something I've been trying to figure out for a long time. Thanks Emma.

So glad I have found your channel! Simple videos that break it down and make it easier to understand! Thank you!!! ❤

Yes technically and actually LRK. The orchestration Bonham uses would require you to crossover your right to high tom, left floor. He is playing that way to ease playing down the kit. Also it sounds different, with the strong hand accenting the middle third and of course it affects where and what you play coming out of it. Weak hand leads also tell you more about your speed and consistency because it can't hide behind the big R.

I learned these leading with my left hand. 2nd nature to me now and I can start on the snare or rack tom. Seems to allow me more variety when leading with my left hand vs right hand.

I like the look of that kit. I wouldn't even be embarrassed using it for a gig even though it is e-drums.

Direct from the late 1960's. It was the highlight of many rock drummer's solos.

Your small tom is tuned so beautifully ❤

Oh man, I have always done them RLK and have been practicing doing them LRK because I thought I was probably doing them wrong.

I noticed the snare has a side rim extension to the right which I guess is used for cross sticks, right? That means you can only do cross sticks with one hand. Either left or right.

I sometimes play open-handed with my left covering the hi-hat and my right covering the cross stick on the snare. Then I'll switch to right on ride and left on cross stick. I wouldn't be able to do that, I guess. 😢

Add a double kick and they sound amazing. In triplet form of course.

Nice one Emma.
I'm LRF myself.
Do you know the Tony Williams/John Bonham triplet?
That really is a challenge. Keep up the good work.
Cheers.

Better yet, try RLKLRK and so on. Alternate. It's easy once you get it down.

No, leading w your right is the most important part of this pattern or simply leave “Bonham Triplet’s” out of the description. Play them RLR during any Zep tune, and you will notice the sticking issue!

Once you learn to do triplets, look at them differently - as a flam with the hands then your foot and your speed will skyrocket! Try it and comment to me what you think!

I'm not a musician but just yesterday in my car listening to the radio outside the dialysis waiting for my friend i had an idea, it may be stupid but i was tapping my toe to the drumbeat and I thought wouldn't it be interesting if instead of just hitting the drum with your toe there was also a way to hit it with your heel as well. Do you see what I'm saying? What do you think?
