Rudy’s floored at how many foil full art lands in a set box. Forgets how every collectors booster pack contains a foil full art land.

The biggest complaint for players of the game lately, (not taking the discussion about banning certain cards in standard) is that standard is too expensive to play from set to set. Looking at what you pulled in this video I would guess that these set boosters are a way to combat that problem. More rares circulating means prices are lower, and that means more new players won't be scared about going into standard. Yes it will decrease the second marked value. But looking back at previous standard in cards. Just to play the decks at the top, if you didn't play mono red. The landbase alone would set new players back several tens of dollars. And that would be a problem from set to set. Yes the scrylands are worth chumpchange, but Fabled Passage is averaging 6 bucks even with the reprint in M21. And you want 4 to optimize your deck.

TLDR: More rares means lower prices, which leads to more players getting into standard where the set often changes, because standard is cheaper to play.

Previous videos: "...How many packs are in these? 24?"
Me: "No. 30. Read the box."
Other previous videos: "...gah, how many packs?" *picks up one pile to multiply by 3* "...24"
Me: "NO. THIRTY."
This video: "...crack open this 23 pack booster box..."
Me: "GODDAMIT RUDY!!!" *flips table wrecks pc burns monitor*

I opened a box and had a pack with a leyline tyrant, Moraug, Rare card, and Chain Veil. Set boosters can be crazy

Rudy needs to put an old "The List" card next to the real deal to see how close they match.

Well the standard booster boxes were designed to be Draft boosters.
It honestly seems like wizards is trying to steer things back that direction. People who are buying boxes for their standard decks should purchase the set booster boxes ideally. And those who want to draft, can still buy the draft boosters.
And now there's the collector booster box for those who want something even nicer.

If they do this right, making sure supply is not an issue that causes inflated prices on the newer products, it could be very good for every type of player/collector.
The amount of extra common trash im left with from draft booster boxes when searching for rares is insane. If these set booster boxes can actually maintain around a $115-$120 range, it would be perfect. But the problem currently, is they arent....

Rudy, I think you are correct. This will cut into people buying the draft (regular) booster boxes, but that is by design. Apparently, this is to give players an alternative to draft packs where they do not have the worry about balancing pack content for limited play. Draft packs by their own description, are now mainly for drafting and limited play and they want these to become what players buy to build out collections.

Morning coffee and catching up on my fix. Let's see if Rudy's pulls are as good as my first set box video...

What Rudy mentions here about the worth of rares in zendikar is what I have feared for a while. It used to be you had 1 rare for every 3 uncommons and 11 commons (and each times 8 for every mythic). But with all those extra rares due to collectors, vip and whatnot rares have become the new uncommon, and their price shows that. Even mythics are no longer what they used to be. Omnath is the big dog for zendikar, and even the showcase you can get for under 20 bucks, in the allocation period, when the singles prices are overblown.

collector boxes is 100% the way to go with zendikar. i wasn't aware of the chance to pull expedition lands in those. ended up with a couple of fetches and a cavern :)

Its interesting how the EV on the regular booster boxes is so low but it still comes with a topper with a possibility of pulling a fetch land.

I bought a set booster display this week and I really liked it. Usually I only buy one display for fun per set but Im thinking about buying one more display since they only cost 5€ more than a regular display and its a lot more fun to open.

Where does he get set boosters for 120$ my LGS sells em for 150 each. That’s why one might opt for the 100$ draft box.
