I like that you show some of your struggles. So many videos show how "easy" it is, and don't show little traps like fragile plastic tabs. Those little tips and tricks make all the difference. I will be testing out your advice today and will let you know how it went.

His method of removing the cooling fan is significantly easier than attempting to remove the alternator from the passenger wheel well / under the car. Also if you are bothering to do this repair. Pick up a 16mm socket and replace the belt tensioner assembly and the serpentine belt if you are already over 100, 000 miles. It'll only take you an extra 15-20 minutes while you have everything opened up. You could also replace the idler pulley at this time and you would have knocked out 3 bearings that are known for failing around the same time. Thanks for the video.

Getting ready to do my wife's van and you just saved at least 4 or 5 hours going from the bottom! Thanks!

Great tips! However, if you drop the compressor down without disturbing the freon lines, you don't need to take out the fan or drain coolant. Comes out the bottom no problem. Alternator bolts have plenty of room to come out without hitting the fan. Saves a some time and aggravation fighting the fan. Keep up the great videos!

After watching a few videos on this I decided to tackle the job on my wife’s 2016 grand caravan SXT from the top I was always told if you don’t have to bother the A/C components don’t. It was Really not to hard .
Went ahead & installed a new belt also.
$160 for the alt. from a local rebuilder
$20 for the belt from the parts store
Thanks for your info it made the job go smooth
Also as Sam suggested didn’t have to remove the bottom stud

That’s exactly how I just replaced my alternator on my wife’s van I watched videos that showed removing the bolts from the ac condenser and at first I was considering that route but after looking at the alternator placement I knew that removing the fan was the best option, nice illustration and I highly recommend this technique for the proper alternator procedure!

I am going to be honest. At the age of 47 years old, I think I am finally done working on my vehicles. My alternator just S.T.B at 183k and it was the original. I can easily do this job, but between working 60+ hours in my 5 day work week, and my 4 kids and wife, I just don't have the time. If I didn't have the $$ to have it fixed, I would do it myself, I just don't have the desire to do this crap anymore. Thank you for showing us. I was shocked when I called for price on a new alternator and realized if I'm paying $400 dollars for a new one, why not have someone else friggin do it. IDK if any of you are at the point where I am at.

Well worth watching. My lady's van just threw the alternator today and I gotta look at it in the morning and see if it's corrosion on the wires or if I get to take it apart to put in a new one. I appreciate the work and attention to detail you put into this video and for that I thank you sir!

Thanks champ. Big help for me. Have to change mine on a 2014 caravan. I actually just did the oil cooler module on the same engine. Went with the aluminum housing Dorman rather than the plastic one. I know ahh not Dorman but I must say it has held up for the last 5000km with no issues and now the lube techs won't break the housing.

My ex wife’s alternator just went out on her 13 caravan and it had me stumped for a few days cause the battery lasted awhile (brand new) and when the voltage got so low it wouldn’t shift into 3rd gear radio wouldn’t work windows wouldn’t work and all kinds of stuff but if I charged the battery up a little bit it would work perfectly fine till the battery drained again… these new technology cars are insane with the location of a 10 minute job part and the way the vehicle acts possessed blew my mind till today when the van would go about 1-2 miles and die and need a jump. Got a alternator on parts geek for $150
