Before the expert rules (which require tributes and such), it used to be a free to summon monster game. The rules are only ONE monster can attack per turn, and if the opponent have no monster/s left in the monster zone to attack or defend (and fails to summon it whether it's a normal summon or by magic card like Monster Reborn, Brain Control, etc.), it's most likely an auto win, because you only have 2000 life points.
And back then, the deck was 70 percent monsters, and a good magic cards were incredibly rare, like the Swords of Revealing Light.

In logic, the one who has all the strong cards should've won, but that is where the virus card becomes incredibly effective. And that's how Kaiba lost from Pegasus.

The days of just summoning normal beat sticks and basic spells and traps. I do miss this era of yugioh but it was dreadfully boring to play back then.

It was just honestly dumb luck Yami Yugi was able to assemble Exodia. To do that in reality you must build a deck around it, which involves drawing cards and holding off your opponent like the Rare Hunter did.

Yugi has summoned the Mighty Exodia and defeated all of Kaiba's three Blue Eyes White Dragons, Kaiba is done and Yugi wins it and it's all over for the Mighty Dexteras.
