Hiroshima In A Day: Miyajima | Japan Travel Guide

Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day!

Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water.

Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island.

I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station.

From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go to Miyajima island.

Places visited:
Itsukushima Shrine and the “floating tori gate”
Omotesando Shopping Street
Momiji Bridge
Daisho-in Temple
Senjokaku and the 5 story Pagoda

I used to live in Hiroshima, and after moving, we would go back there every year to spend New Year's Eve at my grandparents'. So many memories.

By the way, where did you get the Spirited Away music, Angela?

Wow I was there just yesterday!

Something to note is that you can use the JR pass to get to Miyajimaguchi and also on the JR ferry.
But if you don't have the JR pass the line for the other ferry seemed a lot shorter and maybe less crowded.

I didn't get to see as much as you did. I only saw Itsukushima shrine and Omotesando, so I am very thankful for this video.
God, those oysters were so good, I am ruined for oysters forever now. I don't think any others will even stand close to them.

Cheers

You're so adorable. I lived in Fukuoka Japan for a couple of years. Your videos are great because you show real Japan not just anime and goofy things. Thanks for sharing the real thing. Hope to run into you sometime if I go back to Japan. :)

The deer use subtlety in eyes and ears to gesture. It would be neat to know the places to go for a textile tour in Japan. The making of traditional textiles of Japan.
