Once water is added, glue is activated and you have about 15 minutes to compact the stones. In 15 minutes, you won’t to able to hand tamp to move the stones.

With a cold patch without water activated glue, tamping is very important as the patch permanency comes from the stones pushing against the edge vertical wall. 2 inch of cold patch can be compacted to 1” and the surface is hard from the stones interlocking like packed snow or packed powder. But no body wants to tamp, or spend time cutting or chiseling 2-4” edge vertical wall. But Sakcrete says cold patch is permanent you do the edge wall, do 2” to 1” layer or lift, tamp, tamp and more tamp. Glue patch is for people who won’t do that, so it’s less work and sells for 2-3x of cold patch.
