Mac + iPad = UNMATCHED AWESOMENESS (Sidecar Tips)

When iPadOS and MacOS Catalina combine, Sidecar happens. I LOVE Sidecar and I've been using it enough lately that I've gathered some tips and tricks and best practices to share. I use sidecar for music production. It’s very handy. I can move my different plug-ins to the iPad and continue working on Ableton Live. It definitely makes multitasking so much easier.

Wow that tip of opening an app on the ipad even when sidecar is not connected and the ipad screen is off is pretty awesome! That's the most useful ipad tip I've seen in some time. I just tried it and it works great!

Thanks for the tip regarding how to launch Sidecar by hovering over the left top green menu button and then selecting the destination display from the drop down menu. I didn't know that technique.

Sidecar is great for doing software development. I put VSCode on my MacBook, and the app I'm debugging on my iPad using Sidecar. It allows me to do multi-monitor development in places I wouldn't otherwise be able to, such as lying in bed, or outside on the deck or in the park.

Sidecar is one of the greatest things! Now I just need to step up my iPad game to fit my MacBook 16” setup :) With the Logitech MX Keys, MX Master 3 and Palm Rest and an iPad you pretty much have a portable Desktop setup :) At least for non-powerusers :) I especially like the Logitech products because they work just as great for Windows BootCamp gaming.

After a 30-year career teaching music in-person, I successfully switched to teaching ONLINE, 2+ years ago. I'm currently using an M1 Mac Mini with multiple video sources (5 cameras, a macbook, iPad 9G, video switchers, etc) ... What's been frustrating, is that it's not easy to SEE my students when I look into my front-facing camera ... So I JUST bought a teleprompter. After watching your video, I'm now SUPER EXCITED to use Sidecar! ... Using my M1 Mac Mini, and another iPad (mounted on the teleprompter) connected via Sidecar, I'll now be able to see my students, WHILE I'm looking into the camera!

I'm using sidecar as a homeschool tool to help my kids :) Taught my 5 year old son the screenshot gesture via apple pencil so he could mark the pdf worksheet :) Its a great paper saver!!!

Yampad for similar functionality older non compatible iPads. Also offers more resolution options. Recommend using wired connection for best results
