It isn't a demand from buyers. This is being mandated by the state.

Do not live in Alameda!!!! It's The local govt here is way too greedy for tax...they get the style from NEWSUM!!!

We thought about getting a house on Alameda because it's a great island but it's way too expensive. Might rent for 1 more year and then move to Portland since the houses are literally half the price and you get more house plus you don't have to pay taxes in portland

The higher interest rates will make it affordable again. The layoffs are soon to follow and that will make it the buyers turn.
