I really don't know how to feel about this

man four years ago, these foxes looked in great shape. now they look pretty sad and unhappy and dirty.

I was getting angrier as the video progressed. They look doped up and under fed. The stray fox, roaming our area, looks healthier then these ones. Absolutely disgusting guys 😭

ok so context, it's the middle of the summer and therefore the foxes are shedding and irritable, their fur despite the shedding is still a tad too thick for the humid summer weather and to combat the heat they'll bathe in any water source they can find and even pee on themselves and eachother to stay cool. foxes aren't very glamorous creatures when their coats are blown out and shedding off, and being irritated by the heat, but these foxes are not being abused, neglected or exploited! they have access to food, water, and private quarters at all hours and not forced to interact with the park guests in any fashion, the 'observe only' rule is strictly enforced and you can't even hand-feed the foxes unlike other parks with more docile animals. the treats are supplementary and not the only thing they have to eat, they just prefer the treats more because specifically designed (by combining all-natural ingredients that appeal to the species) to entice the foxes and encourage the foxes to sniff around and forage. to the untrained eye it looks like animal cruelty but these foxes are spoiled babies that are pampered for being kept as 'naturalistic' as possible! in the wild foxes face poaching, deforestation, and often meet gruesome deaths by farming machines, cars, and natural predators like bears and hawks! please do not feel bad for these foxes they are safe and content!

although foxes are canine related to wolf and dogs they are NOT pack animals that's why you see a lot of dominance displays ie spraying or peeing or marking and the fighting.

Have to agree with you, a fox concentration camp describes it well, instead of a sanctuary, they are being exploited. Why treat an animal you would build a shrine to like these poor things.

I just watched the Rachel and Jun video about this place 5 years ago. What a difference! It’s hard to believe the place had gone down so badly. I wonder what it would take to get the foxes the good treatment they deserve.

As someone who visited this Fox Village in summer 2014 I could swear it used to look in better condition than right now D: The foxes were healthier and taken with more care, surroundings looked cleaner, staff was nicer. Apparently during the 90s and 00s it even had more sanctuary feel than today, but I've only heard about that during my stay in Japan. Did the overpopulation brought so much stress to the foxes? Did the staff suddenly stopped caring about their business, especially after the village got more popular in the last few years?
There is one thing we can all agree with: this place has gone downhill! Period ;_;

We're planning our second trip to Japan so have been researching things to do in the northern region.
I saw Fox Village and got excited, then immediately remembered why we didn't go to a cat or owl cafe after reading reviews about how the animals are often drugged to make them more docile and it's just so sad.
It absolutely could be a sanctuary with great conditions and it could remain very popular. So sad and aggravating.

My opinion is they should be roaming free in the wild being well treated and not being stuck in that place or in cages I feel so sorry for them at least you exposed this place.

So many animal health violations, good God. The animals are not taken care of, washed, healed or fed properly, a wooden patio with no hay for the goats (which is bad for their hooves), way too many bunnies in tiny cages that are designed for smaller rodents, almost every fox has cuts, infected eyes, missing ears and fleas. Just to name a few.
