Alesis HR 16 sporting Strellis Eprom.

Some pattern i have programmed plus single sounds in the end of the clip.

All 49 sounds in the HR 16 are replaced with a selection of Linn LM-1, LinnDrum, Linn 9000, Oberheim DMX, Oberheim DX, Sequential Circuits Drumtraks, Emu Drumulator, Emu SP12 and Emu S1200 samples.

I worked as lead tech for Alesis for about 11 1/2 years. I personally hand built the 3rd and 4th prototype boards for the HR-16.
One trick we used in later years for our personal rigs was to physically stack the eproms and mask roms with only the enable pins free floating. A couple wires, resistors and a switch (dpdt as I recall) and you could have both 16 and 16B sounds in one box. Not both playing at the same time (had to switch while off and reboot), but still it was pretty cool. Did the same kinda thing with MidiVerb and MidiFex too.
Good times, bad times, crazy times, but never dull. Especially the parties. Freaking epic.
P.S. In later years I wrote most of the service manuals, including HR-16/16B, SR-16, QS-7, Midiverb, Microverb, XT/XT:c, Adat XT, etc, etc, etc. About 20 of 'em total.

And for the curious.. it's "ALgorithmic Electronic SYStems" AL E SYS. Apparently in the beginning, Kieth wanted a european sounding name as a marketing tool to distance the company from the predominantly asian musical electronics industry at that time.

I cant find this specific rom set anywhere anymore. Only a linn one or dmx and drumtracks together. Anyone know where i can get this set?

this combination of Linn, DMX, Drumulator is rather sweet and rare in one kit.

Hi there, thanks for the great video, the machine sounds awesome and those patterns are funky! I'm thinking of buying the EPROMs but have a question. Are you adding the reverb after the fact or is it printed onto the samples? I just want to make sure the samples are dry. Thanks!

could you make some time stamps to tell us which drum pattern is which drum machine? It's not very clear. Linn Drum is first yes, is it in the same order as written in the title?
