The Vampire Diaries Almost Had THIS Different Ending

The Vampire Diaries almost had a different ending!

=But we’re pretty sure the showrunners made the right call…

The Vampire Diaries may have aired its finale last year after 8 amazing seasons, but ever since the show ended the producers have been giving us all kinds of fun behind the scenes facts about the show, including alternate plots that never saw the light of day. By now you’ve probably heard that there was one ending where Elena would end up with Stefan, and another where BOTH Salvatore brothers would die. There’s quite a few fans who would have supported either of THOSE plots coming to fruition, but when it comes to the very last line in the show, in our very humble opinion, the writers nailed it.

You’ll recall that Ian Somerhalder’s character Damon says the incredibly emotional last line of the show: “Hello brother”. It was such a powerful way to tie things up, as it was also his character’s FIRST line in the Vampire Diaries. And if you’re a fan of the show, and therefore followed the complicated relationship between Damon and Stefan for 8 seasons, than the line probably had you crying your eyes out the moment Damon said it. But in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Kevin Williamson revealed that this beautiful moment that was the perfect ending for the show, almost didn’t happen!

Kevin explained QUOTE, “The original version was ‘Oh, I see they have hero hair in heaven,' Then they hugged.” While this sarcasting quip would’ve definitely been true to Ian’s character, the showrunners decided that last moment needed to be more emotional.

After finishing watching the show, many fans took to Twitter to share how much the last line resonated with them, so it’s probably safe to say that the showrunners made the right call. One fan wrote QUOTE, “Hello, brother' just screams Vampire Diaries to me”, while another shared QUOTE, “Just watched the last ever episode of Vampire Diaries and I am actually sobbing, tears literally pouring down my face. It ending how it started with "hello brother" I can't cope”.

Alright guys now I wanna hear what YOU think of the Damon’s alternate last line -- are you glad they decided to go with “Hello brother” in the end? No. The “hello brother” was the perfect way to end. Although it still got me mad.

I think they were slowly building up SE again but then Nina left so they didn’t have a choice but to do DE as endgame. There were soooo many parallels as to how Elena was her best self when HUMAN. And it’s canon that human Elena was meant for Stefan!

Also I’m pissed that literally every character BUT Delena got a shitty ending? Caroline was left a widow on her wedding day (I like klaroline so it’s ok...) and once again the writers proved how shitty they treated Bonnie throughout the seasons! They literally used her as a sacrificial goat for all of their problems and when she finally finds happiness they decide to kill him! Wtf!

And I read somewhere that the writers said Bonnie goes on to live her life but she continue to felt this emptiness inside her.

ALSO. I think it would have been more poetic if they killed Damon in the end! Stefan had to live guilt over turning Damon into a vampire but it doesn’t erase the fact that Damon was an abusive man child with no conscious and regard for people’s feelings! He was selfish. How many times did Stefan sacrifice everything for his brother?? And in return Damon steals the love of his life lol.

The beginning of the show starts off with STEFANS story... And in the end, STEFAN dies.... tell me how that makes sense. He deserved so much more than what he got.

Unpopular opinion: I cried my eyes out when Stefan died BUT I actually think it's a bit poetic that he died in the end. I mean, I could never picture Damon as a hero. And tbh I think the writers killed Stefan off because they couldn't see Damon as the hero either. Stefan has always been a hero, he always sacrificed everything for his loved ones so I think it was beautiful that he died saving everyone once again. Plus, I find it nice that the show was Stefan's story so since it begun with him it had to end with him.
BUT, since I am a Stelena shipper I think it would be even more poetic if the writers found a way to make Elena choose and leave with Stefan and not come back to life but spend eternity with him in a sort of an afterlife!! Wouldn't that be cool and kind of poetic?

They should of both died. Its not fair that they didnt give he other 50% of the fandom a finale we deserved. If they could make Elena and stefan get back together both Stefan and Damon should of sacrifised themselves for her. They Elena and Caroline would of opened the school under the salvatore name. Also the only reason they killed Stefan off is so that Klaroline would kinda happen. And thats even more annoying

I wish they choose the ending where Elena would end up with Stefan and then my Stelena heart would be super happy

I can never forget when he said “hello, brother” in the last scene. I started crying.

the first option is ... " Omg Damon is there " but i truly prefer the other one ... is more emotional

Now that show has been over for a year now, my final un-asked analysis is : The show didn't last because they took the originals off & made Elena a vampire.
...
Season 4 worked because they were trying to make Elena human again, because season 5 & 6 should show you, that Elena was a terrible vampire imo.
I personally only loved Katharine! Elena was sooo anoying to me & after season 5, when they killed off the doppelganger mythology & Katherine, her storyline was done, which is why i think Nina left, because she low key knew. Unforntally she took the little amount of fans that still stuck around after the horrible season 5 w/ her. Soo no one really appreciated how amazing season 7&8 were. Although i will say, i didn't like the fact they made the villains of these season resemble Nina, i thought that was werid, but other then that, it was great. I love rewatching this show though, i feel like I'm junior high again lol, but it ended my sophomore year in college 🤷🏽

I love that they went with “hello brother” at the end. It’s a classic Salvatore brother line.

"Hello Brother" is the perfect sentence from Tvd like "My Cousin Miguel " from Teen Wolf.❤

They did the “I was feeling epic!” They did “Hello, Brother.” They did so many lines in the last episode that had me crying! I love that show so much! I’m still crying about the fact that it’s over and that The Originals is now on it’s last season! The casts in these two shows are AMAZING! I just wish they would never end!!!!
