Hi Paul, Ryanair will accept a government issued temporary document if a travel document/passport is stolen (temporary document is to be used for one leg of the journey only). There are 46 daily buses from Benidorm to Alicante (4 euros 75 per trip or thereabouts). There is a tram that leaves every 30 minutes and costs about 6euros 50 per return to Alicante or there is the train. Sorry to hear that you were robbed, only ever happened to me when in Prague (and it was gut-wrenching), very busy train and my bum bag was removed during the crush. I lost my phone, my camera and some loose change. Reported it to the police at the airport (as was on my way home) but they insisted I wait to speak to the judge, who was 2 -3 hours away. I was told if I left without speaking to the judge, the crime would be considered not to have happened. Needless to say I left but got the policeman's badge number and the address of the police station so squared things with my travel insurers.

Sorry to hear this. I can't help with your immediate problem, but here's a good tip for future reference: I have a copy of my passport, driving license, and travel documents stored on my phone. in addition to this, the content of my phone is stored online. This means that as in your case, all your info can be produced and if the phone is stolen it can be retrieved from online storage from a second phone or PC. Again sorry, but hopefully that this will help you going forward.

I travelled to Colombia quite a few times, and always wore my backpack at the front. Even the locals do this because of robberies. And in packed buses you hold your arms across your bag as much as you can. Situational awareness, sometimes you can slip sadly

Hi Paul, sorry to hear that this has happened to you, I’m always giving advice to others about security and got stung myself in Benidorm! I would go back to where this happened and wait and watch for a while because I believe a criminal always returns to the scene. I’d also check the bins in that area and surrounding area because they will throw away what they don’t want very quickly just in case they get nabbed! Hope you get home ok and also get accommodation sorted, take care.

Just watched this video again and I just remembered something, i remember being in Benidorm as a kid around 1985 and i remember we were looking in one of the souvenir shop windows and after a couple of minutes I just happened to look back and there was a boy he looked about 8 trying to discreetly unclip the keyring I had hanging from my backpack and he was with a woman who was watching him do it, i think it was his mother, both looked Romany and i remember pulling my bag away from him and glaring at him and he moved quickly away. I know a keyring is nothing compared to what Paul has lost but it's the inconvenience of having to be extra vigilant when on holiday. To get your passport and money stolen is shocking.

Blimey, you will have to buy a mini padlock for your backpack zip. Im always paranoid about wearing backpacks for that reason, but its sad we can't trust anyone walking about.

Paul I have just read a comment for you to go back to were you got robbed and look in the local rubbish bins around that area, because I just remembered when it happened to me in carrafore shopping mall in spain the police security in there told me to do that for my bank cards because they only want the cash, but I just got on line and cancelled them xx

I am so sorry. This is never a nice thing to happen. These people never consider the distress they cause.
