In real life, a boating speed sensor has a spring-loaded arm that's pushed back by the flow of water. In doing so, it generates a vacuum through a rubber tube that connects to the dial on your dashboard. The more vacuum you make, the higher the dial will go. The way it works is water pushes against the sensor, moves the arm back and changes your speed indication on the dial.

That's why you don't need electrical power for the speed sensor. Its "power" is generated by the water. :)

Plenty SW tutorials out there but I love how Squirrel takes it slow and explains during a lets play.. Perfect way to learn... Slow and steady! P.S. Can you hear that? It's My Summer Call, it's calling your name!!!

I really like this series. I bought the game and it's so fun so far. I hope you'll continue with this series.

I knew I would learn something new! I never noticed the electrical connections changing to white before! Also, since they introduced power curves to the engines, I've found the optimal engine rps for enough torque to push the boat is around 11. Anything below 8 causes me to stall out or go painfully slow.

You can translate the -1 to 1 output from the axis of the chair to 0 to 1 by using an microcontroller with input -> function (x+1)/2 -> output. So you don't waste half of the "movement" of the axis - much more important when you use the hotas-chair.

I've had Stormworks in my Steam Library since it's release, but never got into it until i started watching this building series....so last night i just reinstalled it and am getting back into building and playing the career mode. Thanks for the great Stormworks videos...keep them coming please!

Loving this play through. Bought this game because of your videos and they give really helpful tips on how to play

Right now the generator is directly connected to the engine. So when engine RPS is decreased in high gear, the generator also has lower RPS, and produces less charge. You should be able to put a gearbox (or 2) at max transmission ratio before the generator to make it spin faster, which makes running at low engine RPS sustainable. I think you also need another prop gearbox and probably more engines. The boat is too heavy for one engine.

Saw your first episode. I now have 250hours in the game! Awesome find by you and an awesome game for a guy with engineering background. Really lovely to be able to design things and try out new stuff in a simulator!

This has been interesting to watch, it has my engineering side running. You may have me getting another game soon.

Hey Squirrel, you don't have to put down existing Microcontrollers and edit them, you can just go into the microcontroller editor and click on the plus symbol in the top bar, it says "New Microcontroller"

I love the potential complexity this game has, now it's time to go watch your streams of Stormworks!

I've been waiting 4.5 years for a part 5 of this series.

The back light should be 135 degrees. Red and green are supposed to be 112.5 degrees each. Once you have a boat that is longer than 12m it should have a light at the top which is white and should cover the same area as both the red and green lights so 225 degrees.

I would love to see you doing missions witg MrnJersey not only building, love that too, but the perfect would be a mix with the 2. If you do so you will be learning alot and faster than seing videos on youtube because he is a mater of stormworks. And maybe with Frantic too. The big trio hehe

Like you videos on Stormworks so far, playing it for a long time already.

Just some small tips,
Microcontrollers can be made simple by going to the right top and go into the editor and press new processor.
You would only need 1 navigation light on each side, best is to use normal lights and dimm them a bit
There is a basic caculator already in game you can use to make things like a speed sensor calculate from ms to knots, kmh, mph. Its the same basic prossesor you made but you can edit the prosessor without going into the microprosseror editor.
You could put a gearbox infront of you generator and it should be enough to get enough power for your ship

I took your base boat and spent 2 days to proper set-up the propulsion. I set-up the engine max RPS to 30, that means rough 1800 rpm. With 3 gearboxes set-up I got a maximum speed of 16 knots and 5 knots on cruising with low fuel consumption.
