UGLY STIK, ugly tuff guides sure are just that, UGLY & TUFF, B-U-T....the same amount of hrs. on a fugi guide doesn't have it growing corrosion in saltwater. I'm possibly needing to TARN-X all of mine. I HAVE A VIDEO...NO, NOT A APP, BUT THERE'S A VIDEO ON THAT!

Just sat and watched it Capt Dave! Great points about how they're cheaping out on parts, but charging the same or more for the newer cheaper made product!

Ok watched the vid Dave, and yep same thing with striper rod. So, I did a little experiment. Took a small round magnet, put it to a guide on my striper rod. Magnet stuck like glue. High carbon content. Next to the Intercoastal, magnet stuck just a little bit, less carbon content. Next, magnet to tiger light guide, didn't stick at all. Carbon content = rust and corrosion. I use white vinegar and a tooth brush to clean the guides, It seems to help. As always thanks for sharing.

Sadly once Shakespeare fell victim to Pure fishing(the evil empire) the wheels fell off because pure fishing outsourced all their rod making work to filmore with marching orders to "make it cheap " so this is what you get. It's the same problem with 75%of the reels on the market too.

My favorite rod is the Ugly Stik Lite with stainless guides...too bad they dont make them anymore

I bought a striper rod for out here in Northern California. Haven’t used them yet but I’ll be on the lookout for this oxidation.

I got news for you...they're not "Tuff" either. I had metal guides on 3 different ugly stiks in the last week break.

Rods were all about 5 years old and had that corrosion. They were all spinning rods (bigwater, catfish, tiger jigging)...only reason you haven't had one break is probably because the force on casting rods is toward the foot and not away.

Uglytuff guides are trash, the old fuji eyes are great, we have 15+ year old ugly stiks that are still goin strong with fuji eyes, ugly tuff eyes will destroy braided line
