Is the “Switch 2” Reveal Coming This Month??

It doesn't seem likely to me that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 this year, but rumors suggest something may be coming soon.

When you say "Switch hype is at a low, why reveal the Switch 2 and kill holiday sales", It's possible that Nintendo might view that as shortsighted. If someone buys a Switch in December and the new system is revealed a month or two later, it might take a long time for them to upgrade. If consumers know ahead of Holiday 2024 that the next big thing is around the corner, then the Switch 2 might get a stronger start with a larger install base.

You know what would be insane?
If they announced the switch 2 coming next year, and simultaneously announced a price drop for the current switch models, and full backwards compatibility. So even as they move forward towards the new system, they still give people all the reason they need to buy new games and new consoles this holiday.

The biggest reason to reveal Switch 2 this month is to get ahead of Tokyo Game Show, so all their 3rd party partners can finally talk about the games they are developing for Switch 2; their partners will be upset if the biggest game expo in Japan comes and goes without being able to announce stuff. The second biggest reason is that mass production has started for various Switch 2 hardware components, which means factory workers can leak photos of those parts at any time, and Nintendo would probably rather be ahead of that and control the narrative.

It is important to note that there are also rumors that the switch successor has started the process of entering production. This is important because once it does enter production fully it will absolutely leak.

Considering how controlling Nintendo is of their ips, Nintendo would most likely wants absolute control of this information and therefore would want to present all the basic concepts first their way and not by a leak.

Another potential idea is TGS. They may want developers to make announcements that their games are coming to Switch Succssor at that event.

For the past couple of Directs, Nintendo has made a point of saying there _wouldn't_ be any news about the new console, just so people don't get angry, expecting an announcement and then not hearing anything. So, then, when Nintendo announces a Direct and _doesn't_ say there won't be a new console announcement, everyone absolutely will be expecting one.

There is in fact one reason i can imagine. if they plan to launch around april – juli next year, they will need to start production soon, especially if they want to avoid scalpers. The moment they start to produce however, leaks are inevitable. some factory worker will smuggle pictures out somehow. They will likely want to control the way, the public learns about the console though. Thus an announcement similar to what they did for the Wii (Just show people using the controller, without showing any games) may be what they are going for.

It would be absolutely hilarious if Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 or whatever it’ll be called soon after PlayStation revealed that PS5 Pro…make the Switch 2 a reasonable price like maybe OLED price they would very clearly be rubbing it in PlayStation’s face 😂

One of the biggest reasons they would make some sort of announcement is because when they go into production they are more likely to see a leak and they would want to get ahead of that. It happened with the switch light.

I’ve also seen a few people who seem to know what they’re talking about say that it wouldn’t affect holiday sales much because there’s not a lot of time switch buyers left. People buying now are buying replacement systems, additional systems, or limited edition systems.

If you can play your Switch 1 games on the Switch 2 there's no reason to not buy Switch 1 games
