You forgot to throw out that chinzy position switch and those dinky pots too, while you were at it. Go the whole hog and it can be as great sounding as the genuine Fenders of old.

I have a what is I think is Samick Silvertone. I has a well built what appears to be plywood and is routed as a large single cavity. It is a Strat style. The pickups are singletone ceramic, but what appears to be 500k pots with green caps. A 5 way switch and appears to be good wiring and well soldered. A 6 screw bridge with a fairly heavy block and 3 springs at the claw no wiggle stick. I got it cheap and I checked the neck for straightness and after cleaning, fret rock and it was straight, bone nut. Well intonated I put D’Marzio 9-42s and it sounds OK, but just Ok. I was wondering if I should just get a loaded pickguard with HH Almico 5s and 500 K pots with orange caps and a 3 way switch, just a Volume and Tone. What would you recommend? It’s a little heavy, but I am good sized, I have a 52 Vintera Tele Reissue, great U neck. Fiesta Red. But the Strat with Humbuckers is my favorite. I considered just getting an HH empty pick guard and a pair of Seymour Duncan’s and gut the Samick pick guard and use the pots and switch gear to the HH one. But I don’t know if I can do it. Those dime sized pots are junk. Maybe a couple of toggle switches for coil splits. Or just toss it to someone who will play it as it is. And get an HH Strat. I am disabled and almost blind. What would you do? I like 7.25 radius and a fairly thick neck.
