Navajo Teachings: Why Gold is Worthless

In the traditional teachings there are four basic metals. The Black Metal, The Blue Metal, The Yellow Metal, and the White Metal.

The Blue metal serves as a reminder of the Blue World... the place before the Yellow World.

The White Metal is symbolic of the Fourth World.

But the Yellow Metal... The Third world. This metal has caused a lot of problems for our Diné (Navajo People).

While the Yellow pollen can give life... the yellow minerals can take life.

Gold, excellent for its non tarnishing properties for electrical contacs. Copper, the driver for motors and the generation of electricity. Aluminium, light and strong for castings. Iron and steel, the backbone of the modern world, buildings and vehicles, bridges, railways. All are priceless.
