Totally not true about Michigan. Most of the people I know here would give you the shirt off their back so to speak. I have witnessed on multiple occasions, the opposite of the door holding scenario you described, in which the person went out of their way to hold the door, even to the point of being politely awkward for holding it for so long.

Tennessee used to be one of the friendliness states I've ever been to, but since the days of Trump and MAGA, it's now one of the rudest.
