Happy holidays, everyone! Whether you celebrate one, multiple, or none at all, I hope you have a wonderful December. I did my best to give every holiday the care it deserves, and I'm so grateful to all the help I've gotten checking the holidays I don't celebrate.

I imagine there's going to be some questions about the choices I made here, so I'm adding an FAQ! Feel free to continue asking, and if there's one that's getting asked a lot I'll add it there! If it's questions about Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or the religious aspect of Christmas, I can't answer much--please ask people who actually celebrate!

Q: Is Muxin canonically Jewish? Who are Xingchen and Metatron?
A: No, he is not. Canonically the Med5 all wield fragments of "Metatron's Cube", a pattern that's said to have been made from the soul of Metatron. Metatron is a powerful angel found in Judaism, Islam, and some Christian denominations. Metatron's Cube is often said to be a Jewish concept, but I have since learned that it is a neo-age invention that has no actual basis in Kabbalistic texts and have removed it from my lore due to its unclear origins. But I still like the idea of Muxin and the Med5 as Jewish purely for the sake of it, so I've kept that part.

Q: Why is Maki eating fried chicken?
A: Apparently, eating fried chicken on Christmas is an extremely popular tradition in Japan.

Q: Miki doesn't know what a bonfire is?
A: Miki doesn't understand many things yet. She's clever when it comes down to it, but if you've never seen something before, you'll probably come to the wrong conclusion! That's why she's eager to learn more about the world, which I thought made her the perfect main character to explore the different holidays.

Q: Yule's traditions were adopted for Christmas?
A: No one actually knows when Jesus was born, but it was probably sometime in spring. Since people didn't want to give up their beloved winter festivals when converting to Christianity, the church created a holiday celebrating Christ's birth at around the same time. Yule is the source of many Christmas traditions (red/green, holly, mistletoe, poinsettias, "Christmas cactus" etc), but some were also taken from other festivals like the Roman Saturnalia. Puritans hated the holiday's non-Christian roots so much they outright banned it in America and England--up to 200 years in some places! But even if it probably isn't Christ's birthday, I don't think there's any harm in celebrating it on Christmas as long as we acknowledge where the popular traditions came from. We don't know, so one day is as good as any other!

Q: Why is Kiyoteru at church?
A: Kiyoteru is canonically Catholic and the son of a priest. He's extremely religious and donates most of his salary to the church. It only makes sense he'd be serious about the religious aspect of Christmas!

Q: I don't recognize some of the characters
A: In the order they appear on-screen, the characters are Muxin, SF-A2 Miki, Tsurumaki Maki, VOCALOID Amy, Avanna, Kaai Yuki, Koharu Rikka, and Saki Synthesizer V. The freeze-frame at the end also has Meika Hime and Mikoto, Shian, Cangqiong, Mo Qingxian, Piko, Kiyoteru, and Chris!

For this holiday season, I wanted to celebrate the diversity of our community! I had to bend the laws of time to fit them all in one video, though. Hanukkah ended December 6th, the "main" Yule celebration is over but in some traditions it lasts as long as two months, Christmas obviously is in a few days, and Kwanzaa begins on the 26th. Please pretend they're all happening on the same day hahaha. If anyone has their own holiday traditions to share, I'd love to hear them!

I honestly wonder if this Talkloid is part of what inspired me to do a bunch of research on Irish accents to get my own Avanna to sound more genuinely Irish in Talkloids...I'm trying to go right down to like, the words she'd pronounce differently, the grammar and vocabulary she'd use, maybe even a bit of Irish/Gaeilge (I had her mutter "a thiarcais" (uh heer-kish), basically translating to "my goodness", in a roleplay once)...It's difficult but also kinda fun (I'm American and don't speak Hiberno-English natively, nor do I speak a LICK of Irish TuT)

(Though it was also the curiosity on exactly what Irish accent she had, which I did eventually find out; it took me a WHILE though.)

So far there are a couple of Talkloids up on my soundcloud but I don't have one on YouTube yet.
