The can of diced tomatoes was slightly swollen. ANY can that is swollen and the liquid is cloudy has to be chucked. When in doubt….

I bet the quality of the meat and fish in the older cans is better. I'd love to send them off to a lab for a deeper analysis. I hate throwing out food but i struggle to get past best before dates. It puts me off. However if i didnt know in advance I'd probably not notice

My thing is off brand versus name brand. I CAN VERY EASILY TELL THE DIFFERENCE. QUALITY ALWAYS COST A LITTLE MORE. The taste and texture is strikingly different.

Thank you this is very helpful. BTW. dates are not expiration dates. Best By or Use By are just dates at which taste, texture, quality will be at its best. Not that its not edible

Great video, thanks! Too much waste in this country. I was just thinking I've got a lot of Ro-Tel (diced tomatoes and green chillies) to start using up and some which has been frozen. Not only frozen, but because of the screwy winters the past few years, , frozen and thawed several times. The can I grabbed wasn't swollen so the next thing was, will it be mush, which happens to a lot of frozen and thawed veggies I've heard. The best by date was 06/23, btw. It was still perfect and it's now in a stew that was getting down towards the bottom of the crockpot.

You are right about acidic foods. The vinegar causes old greens to not taste pleasant at all! I've eaten many "expired" canned goods and I do not like the greens. Blech! And I love greens! Additionally, for some reason, pears and peaches are the only canned goods that I've had go bad and cause the can to swell and leak. I don't know why they go bad but they do. I won't buy them for long term anymore.

Ive been using miracle whip that expired in 22 for a couple weeks. I didn't notice, my wife did. Only because she noticed date not that it was bad.

Doesn't taste as good, but it's still edible😂
