This Lincoln Made Rolls-Royce Look Poor

Meet the 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark 4, America's answer to European luxury. This massive 19-foot beauty packed a giant 7.5-liter V8 engine under its endless hood. With leather seats thicker than a cowboy's saddle and real wood trim everywhere, it didn't just match Rolls-Royce and Mercedes - it showed them how luxury was done, American style.

I was born in 73 my grandfather was a Lincoln man for years I remember being a lil kid having that massive backseat all to myself on trips to Kmart & Woolworth, the trunk every thing about it was HUGE, as years went on and his driving of big cars became a challenge he finished off his life with a little Ford Tempo lol we miss you grandpa !!

THAT was a BADASS machine, I was in my early teens when they were around, it was more powerful than a corvette, unbelievably nimble for a car that size and more comfortable than sitting in your living room! You could just about order any color and interior combination you could dream of, they were BEAUTIFUL and once you rode in one, you'd NEVER forget that ride!

Absolutely STUNNING! These cars floated down the street, the suspension on these cars was unreal. The looks were second to none.

As a kid of the 70s falling asleep in that voluminous backseat on long road trips was pure heaven.

My Dad bought my Mother a new one evey year through the 70's. He was a Ford executive. So he certainly had a line on these. She had a Pantera too.

These are not just cars. These are works of art you can drive.

They never will make a car like that again. The suspension in full size cars back made u feel like u were riding on a cloud. Pure comfort and u don't feel bumps in the road like todays cars and trucks.

My BFF’s mother had this car in 1973. Drove us to our Grade 9 prom in it. I felt like a complete princess. Ahhh, the memories.

I have worked on a few of these cars. I liked the Mark III and actually was a passenger in one as we got hit from behind. We were at a dead stop making a left hand turn in the countryside of Newburgh NY when two cars racing each other couldn't make it back in time a slammed into us. It was 1973 4th of July. The Mach1 that hit our right rear corner pushed us ahead several hundred feet and bent the frame of the Lincoln. His complete left front fender was imbedded in the Lincoln like an accordion. I had a very serious case of whiplash. The Mach1 driver had serious cuts to his side, as I was told, because the driver door got ripped open. I don't know any more about it. except here I am almost 50 years later talking about it. Thank you, Father GOD.

Anytime I see a car like this on the road or in the parking lot at work, I can’t help but take a few pictures or even just stare at it in awe. It’s just pure beauty at its finest. If I could afford one today, I’d have one in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, they’re ridiculously priced if you wanna get one that’s in proper condition.

My grand-dad traded a ‘67 Electra 225 Buick for the ‘74 Mark IV Cartier in Silver Blue Iridescence with matching light blue leather. I rode in it when I was 9 years old and even at that age I could sense how classy it was. I even rode in the back all the way cross country Detroit to Portland.

The Lincoln Mark was the most beautiful car of the '70s - and beyond.

My parents had two of these and I loved them. Sitting in the back with a little porthole window was great. The coldest a/c I’ve ever felt. And my favorite was a super soft cloth interior. Much better than leather.

I'm a Cadillac guy, but the Mark's were slick, all the way through the 00s... I'd take any one of them 👌🏼

My dad had a white one with red leather interior. Everywhere he drove it people wanted to buy it from him.

My first car was a 76'... This thing was absolutely massive and luxurious. Boy was that leather thick. Inside and out. The 460 was not shy, on a roll.

I miss her

I had a 1970 Mk3. For a classy car nearly 5, 000 lbs, it could move pretty well. AND you could drive it all day in real comfort. Sweet memories.
