Today, Gary Habermas, well known proponent of the minimal facts argument for the resurrection, talks to us about the statement "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence," and when it comes time for the evidence...he DOESN'T give the minimal facts argument!

“They just won’t believe any evidence I show them” is just flipping over the game board and blaming the other person.

The facts are so minimal that they’re absent. 😂

Isn't it funny how the amount of miracles decreased with our ability to record them accurately increased?

Fun fact: I filmed this right after showering. You can watch my hair dry as the video progresses.

I find it impressive how pervasive it is for public evangelicals - apologists, clergy, and even academics - to simply insult and misrepresent those who disagree with them and then strut around as if they've said something profound.

It's even more impressive (and depressing) how rarely they get called out for it.

"Hi, let's talk about your proof."

"Why are atheists so angry?"

"... you lost me."

I used to be a Bible scholar and apologist. Spent 25 years in the faith and even went to university intending to study to enter the ministry. What ended my belief? Apologetics. I started to see it for what it really was. A hollow attempt to excuse the inexcusable, reconcile the irreconcilable, and justify the unjustifiable. I didn't even try to save my faith. I never had that period of desperation. As the veil of lies started to fall away, I took a closer look at what I believed and why, and came to the conclusion that I just didn't need it in my life. I had no use for revolving my life and views around something I knew unequivocally was untrue. There were other things along the way that helped. In my studies, I also minored in Philosophy, in which I learned things like formal logic, rhetoric, ethics and other skills that helped me recognize, disassemble and analyze the mess of faulty presupposition and fallacies I'd gotten trapped in.

My husband had an NDE when he had a heart attack. He described an out of body experience he had and told me he saw me in the trauma room. Problem was, I wasn’t in the room. It could not have been accurate.

One other thing about the trans bone density due to hormone blockers thing. The original study also commented that those on the hormones consumed less calcium and engaged in less athletic activities than those not on the blockers, and that it was unclear if it was the hormone blockers that resulted in the loss of bone density or if it was the lack of calcium and impact activities.

Saying that "Habermas comes across as a pompous asshole" makes my day!

"Don't ever think for a moment that atheists and agnostics don't doubt"

Agnosticism is basically doubt rendered as a theological position. Of course they doubt. That's the whole idea. They aren't certain god doesn't exist, they just doubt the claim. Come on, Gary! This is Religions 101 stuff here.

I love your videos. I was brought up in a Pentecostal church. Yep, I was a speaking in tongues Holy Roller. Lived my entire with this belief because that is how I was raised. My "saving grace" lol is that I married an atheist. He did not try to persuade me into to his way of thinking. I stayed in the church with offices such as clerk, Sunday School teacher, Children's Church Teacher, and Youth Director for at least 25 years of our marriage. When I started thinking for myself and started searching for answers, I didn't even tell my husband until after I had already considered myself an atheist. I didn't want my family blaming him. (They do anyway). My family, I love them, but they drive me crazy sometimes. My sister quotes that "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." She is determined that I will believe again. My response is, "I will start believing in Santa Claus again too"

I always laugh when I hear apologists talk about the minimal facts approach.

On its face, it sounds like they’re saying “okay guys, we know the facts are against us, so let’s use a few of them as possible in our arguments” 😂😂😂

I like the little bumper sticker that has what Paul said on it, but it's a bit hard to read, so instead of that I'm making one that goes all the way across my bumper and says "SHOVE YER GODBOTHERING CRAP UP YER DUNG FUNNEL!" Same sorta thing really.

I've had very realistic dreams, that I told someone about, but I was still dreaming, so I told someone else about that dream because it was so freaky, but I was still dreaming, then I woke up and was very confused.

I think this proves that there are other worlds that I traveled to. It's the only explanation.

The way I paraphrase the 'extraordinary claims' phrase is this: 'a claim must be able to prove every element within itself. The more elements, the more proof required.'

Let me explain. The statement, 'Henry V rode a horse at the Battle of Agincourt' is not terribly extraordinary. We know that Henry V existed, we know that the Battle of Agincourt happened, and we know that horses are a thing. However, the claim 'Henry V rode a dragon at the Battle of Agincourt' IS extraordinary, because in addition to all of the other elements requiring proof, you now have to prove that dragons exist. The second claim is more extraordinary than the first.

Also, it must be pointed out that extraordinary doesn't necessarily mean supernatural. ALL new scientific hypotheses are extraordinary and demand a higher burden of proof. The difference that scientists just provide the proof without bitching about it.
