It's terrifying... imagine he makes a robot army of millions of these... with the strength and agility of a 90 year dementia patient... traffic around the world will grind to a halt waiting for them to cross roads.

The elon musk fans don't realise that they are the real teslabots.

There's also blue tape on the floor for the robot and table position. It's a pre-recorded set of instructions that the robot is following. We did something similar in my robotics class in college 25 yrs ago. Our 3 person group made a robotic bartender with 3 different drink choices.

Edit to the fanboys: I’m not saying our robot was better than this one. It wasn’t. What I meant was ours wasn’t AI, it was following pre-recorded instructions we gave it. But we had marks on the table where we had to set glasses & bottles for the arm to grab. Maybe theirs really is AI, but it seems suspicious that they also have marks on the floor & table in their video cutaway…

I wonder how much trouble Boston Dynamics would have gotten in if their robot ran up to the stage, drop kicked Musk’s toy robot, and left the room giving high-fives.

The moment Elon introduced this thing, I knew, this is solid gold for Thunderf00t.

Elon in all his genius has given us Japanese robot tech from the 90's

They should have had a Boston Dynamics Robot doing Parkor around it

When Elon says "manufacturing" he actually means "lying".
NOW it makes sense.

Has everyone forgotten all those interesting Boston Dynamics robots?

It's astounding that Musk will bring out an idea straight from 50+ year old science fiction novels without having any capacity to actually deliver on that idea, and people think he's somehow revolutionary.

Every single day, seemingly smart and intelligent people falling for marketing is uttering disappointing to me

the truck glass bragging is one of the most confusing things to me. Glass in cars today doesn't shatter cause they're cheap or low tech. It's actually a carefully designed feature to allow yo to get out of your car safely in an emergency. it's specifically a safety feature and he's bragging about removing safety features from his vehicles and some idiots are like "yeah that's a great idea".

The sad thing is that Boston Dynamics are actually doing incredible things in this area (I have seen their robots in real life) with practical and robust engineering but all the attention is focused on this con man.

All joking aside, I've been super impressed with high end robot vacuums

Almost 20 years ago now, I bought an R2 unit from Toys-R-Us. It can do a whole bunch of neat stuff but intelligence wise, the most impressive thing is that it can play hide and seek, where the droid will turn around, count to ten and then try to find you. It can go around furniture to look for you behind, for example, a couch and using IR sensors, it understands when it's found a human rather than, say a chair. That's a 2 decades old _toy_ bought at a _toy store_ being more advanced than Elons "incredible" Tesla bot. I'm not very impressed.

Honestly, has he seen how the boston dynamics robots are running, sprinting, and jumping around, doing backflips and stuff? That thing is impressive!

I've never met a person who wasn't full of shit when they say they work even 80 hour work weeks all the time for years on end. 100 to 120 is 14-17 hours a day 7 days a week. Even at 80-90 hours a week, you're at your desk at 7 am and you leave around 8 or 9 pm seven days a week. You're basically saying you don't go outside during daylight hours, you wake up and get to work immediately, you're counting meals, showers and poops as working, you're counting all professional development as working, you're counting all social media (looking at you Elon) as working, and you're not exercising. You'd become a soft, pale, cortisol-ravaged worm. Why would anyone be proud of that? I would believe that a like... Alaskan deep sea fisherman puts in these hours on a seasonal basis and comes out the other side at least somewhat healthy, but if you're a regular ol manager or desk jockey I just don't believe you, and if I do then I'm skeptical of your actual productivity and capacity for decision making while working like that.

To be fair, Tesla engineers did an outstanding job slowing down the robot 🎉
