Socialist, Democrat, Republican....there's not much difference between most of them.  When guys like McConnell and Boehner would rather pick a fight with members in their own party like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz than with a Democrat, you can't pretend there's a great distinction between the parties.  I live in Kentucky, under both McConnell and Paul.  One is a doctor/patriot who thinks outside the box while advocating greater freedom for all Americans; the other is a lifetime politician who has bought his way to the Senate Majority seat through earmarks bringing money to this state.  They are both "Rs"...yet very different men.
