Basic Euclidean Geometry: Points, Lines, and Planes

Pythagoras wasn't the only Greek fellow that was into math, you know. A little bit later, a fellow named Euclid built upon the work of old Pythag, and turned geometry more or less into what we learn in school today. Pretty impressive stuff! Let's learn some basic terminology so that we can maneuver this mathematical wonderland.

I wish I saw these videos earlier. At one time I had a job interview for programming in a CAD capacity, and as part of it they made me write some Euclydean algorythms like dot products etc. The test had more to do with understanding Euclydean geometry than with actual programming. Unfortunately I didn't do too well (I was also a new parent so didn't really have time for homework), so that job was a bust. But it told me enough to know that I wouldn't have been a good fit.

Am I correct in believing pythagoras contributed to the one dimensional plane geometry, and Euclid the 3 dimensions?

Hi Dave, I think there's a mistake in 3:34 - I think coterminal rays would overlap completely thus not create angles whereas non-coterminal rays is what creates angles (i.e. the rays extend in different directions).

Investigate the phenomenon. Double check. Can someone tell me what's going on?

Crazy to think that the universe is topologically FLAT, which means it has no thickness. It can curve, but depth is an illusion!!

"Geometry" was actually developed out of KMT, down Nile River Valley, far before Greek interaction; the Greeks were learned in the ways of the Khemetics and for hundreds of years werent allowed in the land due to being diametric opposites; -Khem (Chem-istry, Al-chem-y, Khe-met, met= "to measure", trigono-met-ry, geo-met-ry, arith-met-ic); black, melanated pple started this wave

There is the 5th postulate that you left out…

Geometry was not devised in ancient Greece. Geometry was devised in Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Greeks just plagiarized.

If a line is made up of points, but points are non dimensional how can a non dimensional give rise to dimensions
