We must stop deforestation to prevent such painful disasters from happening again.

As a person from Kerala, what has happened here is heartbreaking. The landslide has claimed many lives, with bodies found far from the site, carried by the river. Many are unrecognizable, adding to the grief. This tragedy is both shocking and deeply saddening.

My friend is from there... I can't even imagine the trauma the survivors must be going thru. Having to witness loved ones and dreams getting swept away at the blink of an eye... I don't know what to say. I just really hope everyone is safe

Mullaperiyar Dam... its a Massive Dam(186feet) in kerala Tamil nadu border.. 126years old... Validity of the dam was only 50 yrs..
Once the dam breaks it will wipe off 5-6 districts of kerala (half of kerala) and half tamil nadu will face famine, as their water source is destroyed. Hopefully it doesnt, as it is been strengthened in between by Tamil Nadu Govt.
People should not panic & should Request Govt to reduce water levels as soon as possible (may b below 60ft, i dont know technicalities).. and store water in a reservoir in tamil nadu, so that the pressure is reduced .. Later they can renovate the dam/construct new dam depending on the technical team's opinion or may leave it as it is..
This issue needs to be addressed urgently in view of increased rainfalls floods and landslides in kerala.

Yes it's is heartbreaking, but what's even worse is that even after all this no one is talking about mulapariyar dam. If this dam breaks it's game over for half of Kerala. We need both Central government and state governments of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to join hands for repair or rebuild.

sad thing is central govt kept giving them warning to relocate ppl from sensitive areas, a week prior, precautions were not taken. wish all news channels not only report the incidents that have happened, but also search n publish for such news and reports that is going to happen to saves ppl lives. eg:- in rainy season checking for the sensitive areas, does it have any warning signs, and report such news in prior so govt take action. also checking for dangerous damaged roads and warn public about pot holes, tree fall
most channels should work on prevention, as ultimate goal, along with bringing awareness about happened incidents

As a person in Kerala, I say we are the ones to blame not making the govt change policy when clear steps of action were prescribed and we didn't take action because of some of the influential people had some land in Wayanad and they were waiting a period to sell them.
This is what the greed of some people has caused
And our ignorance has also cost us.

It's not just the army, it's the local people, the canine squads and the collective effort that saved as many people as it did. It has been raining here for two weeks straight at this point any natural disaster would have happened but this is just too cruel. It's really scary because the place you've been before is totally unrecognisable now and a lot of people who have been saved or survived are sometimes the only ones in their family left. It's agonizing to think of their pain. People from abroad have been calling news channels to talk about their missing family members who have not been picking up their phone and some news channels stopped ad service to give a constant update about the disaster. I'd suggest that this is not the right time to talk about the cause but the right time to do what you can do. But I understand how you run this channel so be it.

When it happens in Kerala entire india will give attention. Kodagu also had the same incident a few years back but no support from the central government as well as from the media. 😢
