This might not even matter, but our old black walnut went down in our city yard in 1983. We had it sawed into lumber which sat in our garage for 30+ years. Out darling son in law took pieces of it and made his dining room table and bread boards, etc. Our darling lost his battle with leukemia three years ago. His woodcraft will always live on. Much love to your family.

I like to buy antique furniture (usually mahogany) and refinish and have it re-apulstered. It lasts better than anything new.

My husband built me many pieces of furniture over the years. We had so little money at times. They are, without exception, my favourite bits of furniture. The first ones he made were, “get this done, functional” level. Gradually, however, his furniture building abilities, and his time allowance to build grew. Now, although we can buy any furniture we need, he is still building solid well made pieces for me as need arises.

Buggie is really getting big fast! She is ADORABLE and she has FOUR big brothers to protect her and show her the ropes! And not just ordinary brothers but sensitive, caring, loving brothers! She is one lucky bug!

I like the bed being white-washed. it contrasts with the walls a bit and it also means that the white heating thing on the wall doesn't stick out. What is funny, is I usually like more natural wood.

I feel your pain over the furniture. When we married we had to combine houses. We preferred his couch and chairs but my coffee table, end tables and matching corner storage cabinet were all real wood, Amish made, Dove tailed connections, no glue, real furniture. They worked great. One day I come home from work and they are gone. He saw some modern style things and bought them. Someone going down the road saw my stuff in the yard and asked if he could have them, so hubby gave them to him. Pieces that cost a lot as they would have lasted for 100 years or more and they were gone! This modern stuff lasted maybe 16 months before they began to split from glue drying and peel from cheap varnish. 10 years later and I'm still wanting my old set back, lol
