Cloths no longer fit well. They aren't designed to last either.

What's worse than worse clothes is how overpriced cheap things tend to be even if quality is lower than cheaper brands. As well as the fact that most clothes that go unsold or may have only been worn for a short time will just go right into a landfill.

That’s so true . Hard to find any good blue jeans . All synthetic non sense now .

I wear shirts that were bought 13 years ago, they hold up great. The jeans I bought last month will have holes somewhere in them within the year. Overpriced cheaply made garbage is what is being sold to us.

But I have clothes that I designed and made for myself and others that have lasted 7-8 years or longer. Slow fashion and supporting small business artisans is the way to go.

The shift happened in the 1980s-1990s when the remaining textile industry went to China. We are surrounded by former textile towns with 80% of businesses are shuttered. Cotton is still grown in the US bit it is also grown elsewhere such as India.

I also remember when Walmart came barreling across the country touting American made quality products. Now, well just take a look.

The final chapter of capitalism is the reason why. Eat the rich, seize the means, free the world.

Planned obsolescence. The flimsier clothes are, the sooner they wear out, the need to buy clothes more often, the more profit for the manufacturer.

I used to like carhartt. Had work pants that would literally last years. Then I got seven or eight pairs in a row that didnt last more than 2 months. Zippers broke while zipping up or the crotch tore out from stepping down a luttle too high. They lost me as a customer forever. Now I just buy cheap junk and save my money.

I'm in my mid 40's and I almost feel silly saying "in my day" but dang it, clothes were so amazing back in my day. Just regular old department store clothes were made of beautiful, real fabrics. I am shocked at the cheap crap Gen Z has been gaslit into buying. I still have clothes from 1995 mall stores like Express that were made of 100% cotton, silk, etc and they are still in perfect shape!

And even some of the brands that are listed as not fast fashion don't have very good sustainable practices.

And everything is made of plastic now, or some "green" material that is just plastic with some makeup and good pr. It's very frustrating

The poor quality of everything is why a friend of mine has just given up and only buys clothes from temu now. Cos its all temu quality so why pay more than temu pricing. Meanwhile temu is a huge reason this problem exists at all. Ive been trying to specifically buy cotton or linen clothes, but thats ever more difficult to do as all the brands push to fast fashion quality, which means more and more synthetics. At least since I work from home now I don't have to keep a full office attire wardrobe at the ready at all times now, thats helped immensely. I have quite easily saved hundreds of dollars because I don't have to waste it on junk clothes to look office appropriate.

Fast fashion is not only bad quality but also a lot of waste in plastic ect to transport it (I am unfortunately working in the distribution place of it, it's a ton of plastic and nobody cares)

They're all shit, including those at the top; made in the same crap factories that the others are made, they just put a different label on it and charge more for it.

I’ve shared this a ton, it needs to be out there.

The 80s were the best and pinnacle of high fashion. From footwear to apparel. That’s when a majority of brands were Made in USA and the products stood the test of time. Designers were going off with creativity. Made in Italy products too. Everything is garbage now.
