The Olmsted Legacy in Chicago

The nation’s pre-eminent creator of parks, Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903), and his sons, the Olmsted Brothers, had important ties with Chicago that have often been overlooked. In this virtual presentation, historian Julia Bachrach illuminates the Olmsted’s significant contributions to the city’s South Side parks. This program is offered in conjunction with the exhibit From Swamps to Parks: Building Chicago’s Public Spaces. It is also in honor of Olmsted200, which celebrates the 200th anniversary of Olmsted’s birth, and the Chicago Architecture Center’s Open House Chicago, which includes an Olmsted Trail this year.
