This is a helpful video, but what I'm more interested in is what to expect when something goes wrong. How does the windows storage spaces software handle a drive failure? How is the user notified? What's the process of replacing the drive like? I'd like to see a demonstration of this.

It's very important to note, using the normal Storage Spaces RAID where the disks are put together to one drive, does not work like the traditional RAID1. In fact it is more flexible. I had one drive die, that was bigger than the 2nd drive. Microsoft Storage Spaces had advanced enough as it is, moved the data to both drives in the way that the bigger drive that failed, could be replaced and no data was lost.

It has a 'prepare failed drive for removal' process. Once that hits 100% completed you can then remove the drive and plug in a new one and 'repair the array'. With traditional RAID1 as you may or may not know, the disks must be exactly the same size.

Currently running at 2TB and a 1TB together.

I was much more satisfied with Storage Spaces once I experienced a real drive failure than I was in the beginning. It works great. Do keep in mind... if you use more than half the data of the larger drive, you will risk loosing some data, however. This is common sense. Try to use the same capacity size drives if using 2 or more, if possible.

Does anybody know whether I can take out a disk and read it on another pc if I took the disk mirror option?

Ummm... The banner at the very beginning says "WINDWOS 10 STORAGE SPACES" and not "WINDOWS 10 STORAGE SPACES". I am surprised no one has pointed that out. I guess I am so OCD that took all my focus right away. :/

Can a Parity raid pool be moved to a different PC from which it was created? If so, how can this be done?

Never liked software raids, I had a lot of issue with them through the years.
I would only use it for raid 0(stripping) and would get a descend raid controller card (there are a lot of cheap options) for actual data protection and peace of mind.

So what EXACTLY is going on here? In "party" (performance mode), is it basically a RAID 0 type configuration, which uses/recognizes separate volumes as a single drive while splitting the load?

I have a PCIe adapter card whit 4 SSD m.2 on it, this card can`t create hardware level RAID`s. Win Storage Spaces it`s my only way to meke a "RAID 5" whit this SSD`s. Thanks.
