Transversus abdominis is an extremely important muscle in core strength and stability. This muscle helps support your abdominal wall and also your lower back when doing every day movements and lifting tasks. 💪

In order to engage this muscle, the cue of gently squeezing like you are trying to stop from going to the bathroom works well for most people. However, a lot of patients that we see over-contract this muscle and are working other muscles instead.

Try to go for about 20% of your maximum contraction to really get the right muscle. It may not feel like much, but this specific muscle can be hard to figure out how to engage!
