THE BLACK STRAT -My Replica Project of the Guitar by David Gilmour-

I tried to built the black strat of David Gilmour. I think i come close to its personal guitar. I did not reproduce the damaging of the scatch plate what comes from a former CHARVEL neck and was never repaired from DG up to date and its still on his guitar. And I didnt reproduce the repair of the bridge hole what was fixed after dismantling an earlier KAHLER bridge. Its a kind of guitar like the custom shop model. But with very special parts as you can see in the video. i can say its an awesome guitar and congratulation to fender. The parts fit together like the original does. Amazing.

That is really nice looking! I'm planning a Strat build and was going to do a sunburst body. After seeing this, I may do black!

I absolutely love this. David is my favorite guitarist of ALL TIME. I'm a drummer ..picked up guitar alot and now shopping for something to get this sound. Close is good. For now I am on a tight budget. Learning again is going to take time. Ironic I taught my son a few songs and now he is amazing. In a band called disareyen iTunes. Or google play. Corey Clark. It's time I guess for my turn to buy my own gear. Will be my newest thing. Definitely on my bucket list to play this entire song. Drums keys and hell even vocals. The hard part is trying to get half as close as you. Well done. My God well done sir.

From what I understand, Gilmours`s black strat was using in the bridge a Seymour Duncan SSL-5, o modified version of SSL-1, a pickup customized especially at his request.

Nice, but just for the record, the 69 pickups are made by Abigail Ybarra - not Isabel... note the abbreviation AY on the pickups...

Love the video, already knew most of the info but I like how you presented it and your "Black Start" looks better than some of the ones I've seen, sounds great too. Thanks for sharing.

Great job on the Gilmour strat. I also did a build of the famous Black Strat. I was lucky enough to pick up a black pickguard with the rolled edge like David's which adds a nice finishing touch to the guitar. Cheers

How do you know if the pickup is wounded by Isabel Ybarra? Got a early 2000's custom shop 69 set with IY markings but I don't know if the set is wounded by her

thinking of doing a DG inspired build myself with some parts i got but probably prefer a 22 fret version.

I got little confused as this video says a ssl 1at the bridge, do you think i should go for a ssl 5 at the bridge as that what is says on the sites that are selling the replica for £4k are saying.

5 Way Switch, 1) Bridge + 2) Neck + 3) Bridge - 4) Output 5) Ground 6)Bridge - 7) N/C 8) Bridge + ....
then put the Middle pickup to a On/Off/On Toggle Switch making one way one phase and the other way the other phase and in the middle OFF.
you have a ALL Pickup Selection and can Phase the Middle and Bridge as you want

I believe the current black strat has 1971 bullet strat pickups in the neck and middle pickup.

Now you need to add the black cat sticker to make it current 😉

Correction, It is not an SSL-1 and you can hear the difference in your guitar! Gilmour has a custom designed scatter wound, overwound SSL-1 entered into the Duncan catalog as the SSL-1(C)DG which is still available through only one source and not through Duncan. When it went into production it was listed as the SSL-5 which is as close as you'll get to his custom designed pickup.

For the price of that Time Machine Strat along with a V57 neck, you could have just bought one of the DG signature Strats...

cute dude, but Gilmour has an SSL-1C (C stands for custom) 'hot' bridge pickup, not an SSL-1 THE SSL-1 Custom was a high output hand (over) wound by seymour duncan expressly for Gilmour for the WALL project. Since we mortals cannot get a custom, hand wound SSL-1C from Seymour, the closest we can get is the SSL-5. Seymour can confirm this. I recommend you replace that SSL1 with an SSL-5 they are an affordable 59$ from any Seymour Duncan dealer

How did you install the toggle switch like that? Did you use some extra washers to lower the switch?
