I flew to China to buy the cheapest gaming PC I could find in the huge tech markets in Shenzhen.

Play some Minecraft on the Dawid Does Minecraft server courtesy of our friends at Linode!
It works on Java version 1.19.3

Spoiler Alert: If you didn't spend four hours in each shop and threaten twice to walk out, you didn't get lowest price!

My dad visited Shenzhen what seems a lifetime ago and got me my first "real" graphics card, a GT 630. I would never forget playing Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 on that at 1280x720 resolution and thinking this was the best thing ever.

The splitting of the SSD into three partitions is a pretty standard thing for computers here in China. I have no idea why they do this, but it's extremely common.

As someone who grew up poor as hell getting by on whatever scavenged/cheap tech I could get my hands on, seeing those tech markets gets me excited. I would definitely end up spending way too much money there.

The guy who built the PC did a pretty good job with the cable management

I did work over a decade ago in Shenzhen and it was great to see the inside of the tech malls again. It is good to see they survived Zero Covid and haven't changed that much. Good luck in Japan.

I love how these videos don't always end with a working setup or a good ending. That's what makes this channel interesting, it's just a guy trying stuff out and he's along for the ride as much as we are in the process. I love your channel Dawid!

That Shenzhen market would be a great place for doing $1000 PC challenge. (kinda like linus scrapyard wars, but buying parts offline.. And they'll need a good translator)

7:22 "The cooler looks like an Intel stock cooler wearing an Adidas tracksuit" Is easily the funniest thing I've heard all week 🤣

The second I saw the VGA port on the graphics card, I knew this was going to be good.

Thanks for the tour of the Shenzhen markets. It's like looking at the source of the Nile, except it's where all the stuff I buy off of eBay originates.

In my country, if you own a 500$ PC, you belong to the top 3% of the rich population.

Dawid, pro tip, if your card has an 8 pin but your psu only has a 6 pin, as long as you know you'll never pull more than 75W from the 6 pin (according to pcie standards, the cables can do more) you can just stick a wire or paperclip into the two open pins to jump them together, those two are just for sensing by pulling the sense pin to ground

My suggestion for the PSU problem is that due to the mining crash, some of these Shenzhen shops are also selling PSUs that were used for mining as well. You can buy 600W to 700W (second hand) True Rated PSUs for $15 or less.

The current prices for these markets have now relaxed due to the GPU mining crash.

You can plug 6pin into 8pin and that would work better than pata to 8pin😂.
If the gpu complains use a tweezer to short two of the remaining pins and that would bypass any protection.

I call this place my tech heaven. I have lived in Shenzhen for almost 13 years now and I know this market like the back of my hand. I know a lot of the vendors and it is literally a techie wonderland! HQ Mart is awesome!! I actually recently got a super powered gaming rig for $2000. Would have cost me $4000+ in Canada! Love living in China!
