This is the last part of the playthrough! I hope you enjoyed exploring the Watcher alongside me :)
I had to cut a TON of footage out, otherwise each video would have been like 3 hours long! (I know some of you want that, but my sanityyyyyy...)
I also had some pretty "spicy" opinions towards the end, but I hope people can understand where I am coming from :P

*This video is not meant to be an opinion piece/essay, it's the final video of my playthrough where I reveal my opinions after experiencing all of the content in the DLC*

Here is a playlist with all parts! :)

Rain World Watcher, out NOW!!!

Thumbnail was made with art from the "Watcher" DLC!
I did *NOT* make ANY of the art used in the thumbnail!
Always make sure to check out the original artists, there is usually more awesome art at the source! :)

I truly do believe the opinions stated at the end of the video, this DLC deserved a much better reception imo. :)
I think people forgot how playing Rain World for the first time went, we did not know a single thing about where to go or what to do...
You can support the channel by checking out my game on Steam (Horoscopicus) my Patreon or even the Discord! Links in the description! 🧡
Also consdier becoming a channel member (Unlocks Cool emotes! ) Thank you! :)

Unironically gotta say that I appreciate someone in the rainworld community is standing up for the DLCs initial reception. Seeing any sorta negative reviews on the game within the first 2 days was insanely out of place.
Like, I genuinely do understand the gripes people have and where they're coming from, but I see more people acting like game journalists did when vanilla dropped way back when.

I do think the devs should've prioritized finishing everything they wanted before dropping it - that includes improvements in very minor ways - but at the same time, alot of these 'issues' and 'problems' have been things that require an understanding of the general player consensus; something that wont be obtained until more people have finished the campaign than not.

This scene genuinely scares me. More so because of the enormous infected void worm, the frenzy with which it moves, its presence is terrifying. And the background "landscape"... speaking of which there are no traces of life, no neurons, the background looks like a network of dead neurons.

There were frustrations with this DLC, but there were also frustrations with original rainworld and downpour, thats just how this game is, I personally just choose to embrace them as part of the experience, an experience that I found was utterly unforgettable, the way the navigation can lead to people getting completely different routes that are entirely theirs, I wont forget my experience with my first playthrough thats for sure. Also I really feel the rainworld devs would make excellent horror game developers.

god, thank you for speaking up about this, the entire time while i was playing, i was struggling with mechanics, didn't understand how creatures worked, didn't really know where to go and what i was even looking for and the whole time, i was just, , , having so much fun?? in my head i kept screaming "It's like I'm playing Rain World for the first time again!" AND THAT WAS GREAT! figuring stuff out on your own was so satisfying in the base game and it's so satisfying here too.

aaanyway, rot maybe being the tripple affirmative is a strong theory for me right now. it literally looks like the karma 10 symbol and the prince seems to imply that the rot is (or at least is trying) to put an end to the pattern. the Unfortunate Evolution region seems to be very symbolic and metaphorical too, i don't think it's meant to be taken literally, but Pebbles' can being essentially in the void, and the rot void worm really seem to imply some sort of ascension through the rot. Hunter may support that theory too, being the only campaign to have a perma death and spawning a karma flower on you final resting spot ...

yeah, now i remember my friend theorized about rot and karma flowers
"i mean, rot has an X in them, and the karma flowers are also an X, so maybe the pink guy, eh pebbles created rot by experimenting with karma flowers?"
at the time i just didnt think about it, but with this ending, yeah, funky

Reading the reviews, I have deja vu. It's just like with the Ultrakill update. All these sweatmachines have learned the usual RW so much that something new for them is a tenfold more difficult experience. I have problems too, but I've had them before.

I don’t like how people are saying watcher dlc is bad. “Unfinished and polished”? More will be added!

And I think the story (the first one) with Watcher is very endearing, and this is definitely a dlc full of new concepts! It’s not just another mod pasted into a survivor campaign; it’s a thriving new world of ecosystems and creatures to see. And I love it for that.

The rot wishes to preserve all, so it is at odd with the void sea, which is destroying all.

I think the frustration of the players is because they got the idea to always play as in the downpour campaigns.. To go to Pebbles then Moon then go to the new region and get the ending. Instead they literally gave us a new world to explore in a place that feels in another world than as I like to say the cycle.

I guess it's pure coincidence that both the Watcher and Spinning Top couldn't ascend/move on before finding eachother, but, regardless, this begs the question: is there a lizard that couldn't ascend because he's still chasing that ONE slugcat? Hm, , , , New campaing: lizor goes to the ends of time and cycles untill he catches that ONE scug, both trapped on an endless chase like Sköll and Hati to the Sun and Moon, or - more accurately - Tom and Jerry. Plot twist, the scug is Saint and you're the lizard that ends it all by eating him, finally ascending you both, the last beings :D!

Despite the many flaws of the Watcher campaign i couldn't help but fall in love with it. The dlc was so unique and bizarre at times and i couldn't help but be excited whenever i discovered something new. The campaign was filled with so many moments of horror and wonder that kept me coming back despite the amount of dead end rooms i encountered and those damn coral crabs 😭

Fetid Glen doesn't start pre-infected, it just has some rot lizards. Might be excused as "it's just not connected to the Prince, it's not sentient rot, just regular rot".
It's not explained in the game if Unfortunate Evolution is connected to the Prince. It always connects to Outer Rim, though.

Did you know the watcher dlc was released in the same day as the base game? Thats a neat detail

Rain world isn't for everyone and this DLC isn't for everyone either. It's a double filter. I finish the game cause I love exploring even if the game doesn't tell me to do. That's why I enjoyed it so much.

The ending obviously doesn't say much... and I haven't fully understood the lore of the slugcat, the Watcher, either. But from the dreams and cinematics at the beginning of the game, it could be said that absolutely everyone left him behind, the others ascending or simply abandoning him in the world. He was alone.
On the other hand, The Prince, being the prince of rot, wanted to ascend, but by nature, it was a distant reality. And upon seeing The Watcher, he saw an opportunity to use his portals, and there they made what that "plan" amounts to: The Prince used The Watcher to spread the rot, and with it, be able to create his own ascension. The two somehow created a corrupted ascension.
(I clarify that this is a theory I just made based on what little I understood; it's probably not even close to the true lore.)

There is a much easier entrance to "that place" from Cold Storage, so easy to find actually that I got there early in my game and assumed it was meant to be a scripted story scene and not a secret... then was puzzled for the rest of the main game as to why that seemingly had nothing to do with the plot here. I don't think it's meant to be literal. As in, I don't think there is physically a rotted void worm inside of Five Pebbles, it's more of a surreal dream/convergence of dimensions type of space. It's really hard to explain what I think is going on here and I'm hoping someone who agrees with me makes a lore video that I can link to, lol.
My first time getting to Outer Rim was also from there, so I ended up seeing the city side before the Throne. I think that if you get there without the ability to make your own portals, they give you a portal out, because I didn't go to the Throne on my first visit. I did the stupid platforming with only throw boosts just to find the ripple I couldn't use.

Also, just throwing this out here for anyone who wants to investigate further: I found that a chunk of rooms in Salination and Fetid Glen have the same layouts, and appear to be the same place in different times. Fetid Glen also has sentient rot present in it by default and without being considered 'infected' on the map. There are suspicious things going on here.
